How to download videos from Google Photos and Manage Your Google Photos In 2021
Google Photos is widely known as the easiest way to view your photos and videos on your Android smartphone. The service is available on the web as well, and there are apps for iOS, too. Google Drive keeps everything in sync together. How to download videos from Google Photos if you ever want to? If you are looking for how to download photos from Google Photos, the article is here.
How To Download Videos From Google Photos To Your Mac and PC
There are two ways you can use to download videos from Google Photos. Depending on how you use your Google Photos, your photos could be a mixture of photos and videos or all videos. If they are majorly videos, then the best way to download videos from Google Photos to PC and Mac is using Google Takeout to download and export the entire Google Photos library. Then you can delete a few photos and keep the videos. However, if you have very few videos that you want to download, it might make sense to download them one by one to conserve bandwidth and save on time.
Using Google Takeout
Google Takeout works only in a web browser, regardless of the operating system. Follow these steps to download videos from Google Photos to PC and Mac.
Step 1: Visit https://takeout.google.com and sign in.
Step 2: Click “Deselect All” to unselect all your Google data since you want to download only the Photos library.
Step 3: Scroll and check Google Photos.
When you check Google Photos, everything in Google Photos will be selected as default, as reflected by “All photo albums included”. You can click that to choose your folders if you want to.
Step 4: Scroll till the end and click Next Step.
Step 5: Select Delivery Method as Add To Drive (or Send download link via email)
When you Add To Drive in Google Takeout, Google creates a ZIP file that will take up space in Google Drive. So, if your Google Photos data exceeds 7 GB, it might be that the operation will fail since a backup can only be created up to your storage quota (15 GB in free accounts). One way to get around this is to select albums to export such that you can download a few of them and repeat the process to download all of them in batches.
Step 6: Leave frequency (default is once) and change the size to 10 GB to create fewer batches to download. Create Export.
Your ZIP file of videos downloaded from Google Photos will be available in Google Drive. Alternatively, if you wanted a link emailed to you, check your email to open the link and download videos from Google Photos.
Using A Desktop Browser
If you have very few videos to download, you may be better off using the manual method to download videos from Google Photos to PC and Mac using a web browser.
Step 1: Visit https://photos.google.com and sign in.
Step 2: Find your video(s) and select one or more. It might be a smart choice to bring them under one folder so you can select them together, but one-by-one.
Step 3: Hover the pointer over every video and click the checkmark to select said video.
Step 4: Click the ellipses menu at the top-right corner and select Download. Choose where to download and download videos from Google Photos to your PC and Mac.
Using Backup and Sync App On Windows and macOS
The backup and Sync app work by integrating Google Drive with your File Explorer in Windows or Finder in macOS to sync Google Drive to your PC and Mac (and vice versa). You can use Backup and Sync to download videos if they are in a folder in Google Drive.
Step 1: Launch Backup and Sync app
Step 2: After signing in (if for the first time), the app will prompt you to sync your computer to Google Drive. Choose as you wish. This step will not affect your downloads, and this is about uploads to Google Drive.
Step 3: Select Sync My Drive to the computer and check if you want to sync specifically or the entire Drive to the computer. This is the step that you must enable to download your Google Drive contents onto your computer and download videos from Google Drive to PC and Mac.
Step 4: After setup is complete, Google Drive is available in the Windows taskbar and your File Explorer, and macOS menu bar and Finder sidebar on Apple computers. You can see your videos and download videos from Google Drive as and when desired.
How To Download Videos From Google Photos To iOS Devices
Google does not make it easy to download videos from Google Photos on Android or iOS devices. You need to work through a few steps to get your videos out of Google Photos and onto your iPhone or iPad for storing them anywhere else as desired.
Step 1: Launch Google Photos and sign in.
Step 2: Select the video you want to download from Google Photos. Tap the ellipses and select Share To, and select Save To Files (this is the Apple Files app).
Step 3: Choose where to save and download the video in Files on iPhone and iPad.
Step 4: Select location in iCloud Drive and proceed.
