Solution Two – Import Contacts from iPhone to Mac Via iTunes Backup

Many people ask if it is possible to import contacts from the iPhone backup file (that is, the iTunes backup). The fact is that Apple does not allow you to select single items in the iTunes backup file. It is a case of ‘all or nothing’. You can only fully restore your iPhone with it, not just chose to transfer the contacts.

Solution Three – Transfer Contacts from iPhone to Mac via iCloud

The default service which Apple offers to sync contacts from iPhone to Mac is called iCloud.

Follow the following steps to transfer your contacts from iPhone to Mac via iCloud.

Step 1 Enable Contacts in iCloud

  1. If you do not have an account with iTunes, you really need one to manage your iPhone. Please take a few minutes to create an account now.
  2. Then, on your iPhone, you may need to sign into your account.
  3. Next tap Settings > iCloud. Then find the ‘Contacts’ option and swipe the button for ‘Contacts’ to ON, so that the button turns green.

Step 2 Transfer Contacts from iPhone to Mac

There are two places for you to save iPhone contacts to on your Mac.

A. Save iPhone contacts to Mac Address book.

If you haven't enabled iCloud on the Mac, you should set it up first. Click the small Apple icon which is top left of your screen, then choose ‘System Preferences’. Look for ‘iCloud’ and then double-click to open it. Sign in with your Apple ID. Click and put a check mark next to Contacts. After that, you will soon be able to see in your Address Book that your iPhone contacts are there.

B. Save iPhone contacts to Mac as a vCard file.

Open a web browser on your Mac and go to iCloud.com. Sign in with your Apple ID. Click ‘Contacts’ icon. Next click the ‘Settings’ icon at the bottom left of the screen, and select ‘Export vCard’. The screen shots should help. Though vCard has not fully taken off as an idea, there may be advantages, but the choice is yours, and probably not very important. Again, it should be a quick process.
