Can My iPhone Update to iOS 15?
At the recent Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, the company revealed its latest iPhone operating system, iOS 15. The new design updates have really become the hot topic of discussion amongst iPhone users.
In this article, I will discuss all the new features that will be available with the full version and compare it with the iOS 14 software, which it will be replacing soon. I will also list out the devices which are compatible with the new operating system.
So without further ado, let's get into it!
- Part 1: iOS 15 introduction
- Part 2: What's new on iOS 15?
- Part 3: iOS 15 vs iOS 14
- Part 4: Which iPhone will get iOS 15?
Part 1: iOS 15 introduction
In June 2021, Apple presented its latest version of the iOS operating system, iOS 15, scheduled to be released around the fall season - mostly around September 21 along with the launch of iPhone 13. The new iOS 15 offers new features for FaceTime calls, provisions to bring down the distractions, a whole new experience of notifications, complete redesigns for Safari, Weather and Maps, and much more.
These features on iOS 15 are designed to help you connect with others, stay in the moment, explore the world around and take advantage of dynamic intelligence using the iPhone.
Part 2: What's new on iOS 15?
Let's discuss a few of the most amazing features that iOS 15 will offer.
iOS 15 includes some of the exclusive features for FaceTime, a few of which could provide strong competition to other services like Zoom. The iOS 15's Facetime has Spatial Audio support to help conversations become more natural, grid view for video calls to have better conversations, portrait mode for videos, FaceTime links, invite anyone on FaceTime calls from the web even if they are Android and Windows users, and SharePlay to share your content during FaceTime, including screen sharing, music, etc.
This feature makes you stay in the moment when you think you are required to concentrate. You can choose a Focus like driving, fitness, gaming, reading, etc., which lets only a few of the notifications you want to get your work done while you're in the zone or having your dinner.
Notifications offer you a function to quickly prioritize notifications delivered daily, according to a schedule you set. iOS 15 will intelligently order them by priority, with the relevant notifications first.
Exploration with upgraded maps is more precise with roads, neighborhoods, trees, buildings, etc. So now Maps offer more than just going from point A to point B.
The Memories feature in iOS 15 collectively groups together photos and videos from events into short movies and lets you personalize the look and feel of your stories.
This new app supports new keys to unlock in iOS 15, e.g., homes, offices, etc. You can also add your driver's license or government ID to this app.
This is one of my favorite features. It intelligently unlocks the useful information from an image you see anywhere to recognize the number, text, or objects in the image.
Apple believes that top features should not come at the cost of your privacy. Hence, iOS 15 has enhanced visibility into how the apps you use daily get access to your data and further protects you from unwanted data collection, letting you be the one in control of your privacy.
There are few more minor changes Apple has made to other apps, such as user-created tags, mentions, and an Activity view in Notes, Walking Steadiness, and also new sharing tab in the Health app, a systemwide Shared with You feature for highlighting content that has been shared in Messages conversations, and much more.
Part 3: iOS 15 vs iOS 14
Now we know about the new iOS 15, so let's find out how this new operating system is practically different from the previous iOS 14?
iOS 14 had introduced a few of the significant upgrades to the interface of iPhones, right from widgets, App Library, and reducing Siri into a little globe which took over the whole screen when the user had a question to ask. Apple has kept these things almost the way they are with iOS 15. Instead, they are offering new features for their core apps, like FaceTime, Apple Music, Photos, Maps, and Safari, about which we briefly discussed above.
