Full Guide of Using Notes in iOS 9 on iPhone and iPad

Like several other apps in your smart devices, Notes app is also very useful and lets you prepare notes, which can be synced with your other devices, like iPad, iPhone, etc. Earlier, this note app comes with limited features to impress you; but, with the introduction of iOS 9, it has a lot more to offer you on your iPhone or iPad. Using this upgraded Notes app for iOS 9, you enjoy preparing notes on your device, which can be opened up on your Mac. Using this app, you can draft an email, keep a handy log information and can do many more interesting things.

Part 1: New features in iOS

1. Formatting Options

iOS 9 has given a sparkling effect to your notes, taking it beyond the line of basics, when it comes to writing notes. In iOS 9, various formatting options have been included in the app, such as headings, lists, bullet points, title selection, adjusting font size, number formatting, and more. In addition to the text formatting, you can also select a word or group of words for formatting. You can access the formatting menu by tapping on the “Aa” icon.

2. Adding Images

With iOS 9, now it becomes pretty much simple to add images to your notes. For this, what you need to do is tap on the “Camera” icon in any note to add an image from your image gallery or take one yourself. The image will be added in the current note directly while you are working on it.

3. Drawing Sketches

Sketching feature has been added to the notes in iOS 9, to make it more interesting. People, who are having drawing skills, can actually display their talent well. In any note, you need to click on the “Sketch” icon to rightfully open the drawing board, which offers few tools, like pen, pencil, eraser, marker and ruler. You can tap on the related tool to use it along with your sketch.

4. Making Checklists

Notes app is also popularly used to create checklists or to-do lists. In iOS 9, you will find an actionable checklist. You will find the “Checklist” icon in the new formatting menu, at the very left. This will create the first row of your checklist, where you can provide the line item. To continue with the checklist, you need to press “Return”.

5. Viewing Attachments

In iOS 9, you can also view your attachments, like images, sketches, URLs and more, in the provided new “Attachments Section”. In order to view your attachments, you need to click on the “Attachments” icon in any folder. Clicking on the icon will take you to the note, having the attachment.

6. Adding Websites and Links

In iOS 9, a new feature is added to the “Notes App”, and that is 'Website Clipping' feature. To use this feature, you need to find a website that you want to save using Safari. Now, you need to click on “Share” icon and choose “Notes”. Select the note, where you want to save the website, and then click on “Save”.

When you return to your notes, the saved website will be enclosed in it, along with a short description and thumbnail. Click on the particular link, and you are directed to the site in Safari.

Part 2: How to use notes in iOS 9 on iPhone and iPad

A. Create notes on iPhone and iPad

1. Start “Notes App” from your iPhone or iPad's home screen.

2. Click on “Create new note”, provided at the bottom right corner.

3. Click anywhere inside the note to move-up the keyboard and start writing.

4. Click on “New Note” key, provided in an existing note to swiftly start another one.

B. Edit notes on iPhone and iPad

1. Start “Notes App” from the home screen of your device.

2. Click on the note, which you want to edit.

3. Click anywhere within the note to move-up the keyboard, and start editing or updating the note.

C. Delete notes on iPhone and iPad

1. Start “Notes App” from the home screen of your device.

2. Open the note, which you want to delete.

3. Click on “Trash” icon to delete it.

D. Recover recently deleted notes on iPhone and iPad

1. Click on “back” button from the list view screen to view the account folder's list.

2. Click on “Recently Deleted” folder from the account, where you have saved your notes.

3. Swipe left on the recently deleted note, which you want to recover.

4. Click on “Move” to move it back to a folder.

5. If you want to delete the note permanently, click on “Delete”.

Part 3: How to make, check or update notes with Siri

A. Ask Siri to make a note on iPhone or iPad

1. Press and hold the “Home” icon on your iPad or iPhone to start “Siri”.

2. Tell “take a note”.

3. Dictate your note to “Siri.”

4. Once you are done, Siri will automatically save the dictated notes.

5. Now, press again the Home” button to go back to your lock screen or home screen.

B. Let Siri find notes for you to have a check

1. Press and hold “Home” icon on your iPad or iPhone to start “Siri”.

2. Say something, such as "Show me my notes" or "Show me notes from today”, to let Siri find notes for you.

3. Siri will a list of notes in the “Notes App” that matches with the provided description.

4. Click on the one, you want to open and view.

C. Get Siri to update a note for you on iPhone or iPad

1. Press and hold “Home” icon on your iPad or iPhone to start “Siri”.

2. Say something, such as “Update my last note” or Update note”.

3. Click on the note, which you wish to update, from the provided list.

4. Dictate the text, which you want Siri to add or update to the note.

5. After this, Siri will confirm you that the text has been added or updated to your existing note.
