Most people, want to handle their new phone with files, settings, apps and so on that were on their previous phone which they had got used to, hence the need to know how to switch Android phones. There are quite a number of ways for switching Android phones, there are manual ways and automatic methods. Each method is more effective than the other and some methods might be less stressful than the other. In this article, we will be looking into several means of switching Android phones both manually and automatically.

Part 1: How to switch to new Android phone manually?

One very impressive thing about Android phones is its synchronizing feature. All Android devices or most of them require logging in or signing up for a Gmail account. I know some of us might see this as Google imposing their own email services on Android users, but the truth is that it is actually very helpful to have a Gmail account logged in on your Android device. This is because Google does automatic synchronization of most of your data on your device in the background, ranging from small but important things like contacts, calendar, app data, Wi-Fi passwords, chrome bookmarks, to even media files like pictures. Mostly the small stuff is synchronized to Google servers automatically under your Gmail ID, while media files might require your permission to backup.Google can also backup your installed apps using the same Gmail account to connect to play store on your old phone and record or sync these app names and its data to Google servers you might also decide to backup any file you want to Google Drive in order to transfer some of this data from an old phone to a new one, all you need to do is to log in the same Gmail account on your new phone and some of your backed up data would be restored to your new phone.

To see your backup option on Android phones, follow this steps simple

First, make sure you are logged into a Gmail account on your old Android phone

Go to your phone settings and locate Account Settings

Under account settings, you should see several accounts that are currently logged in on your phone, like Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and so on, Click on the Google account option.

You should now see your Gmail account here showing the last synchronized date and time

Click on it and you would see the checked option of things that Google has been syncing for you, you can select more options and click “sync now”

Some Android devices from the same brand like Samsung have a feature on their phone that can aid easy transfer of files from an old phone to a new one by manual transfer using file transfer mediums like Bluetooth, NFC, infrared or Wi-Fi.

Another option for switching to a new Android phone manually is by copying each file one after the other by connecting your old phone to a computer.

Connect the phone to your computer then you can create a folder to copy each file to.

Move files from the old phone to the created folder

Now connect the new Android phone to the system

You may now start copying the files individually into your new Android device.

This might take some time to copy and switch to new phone, but it eventually will complete the process, provided nothing goes wrong.

However, there is a downside to this method on how to switch Android phones. This manual method of copying files to a computer directly only copies media files and probably downloaded or sent files that have a folder location on the internal storage of the old phone. This method does not copy contacts, call logs, app data, calendars and so on since all these files are usually encrypted and hidden on an Android device.
