On your home screen, tap on Settings.
Scroll down and tap on General.

Tap on the Erase All Content and Settings option.
Key in your passcode.
Tap on Erase iPhone.
Tap on Erase iPhone again.
Your device is now restored to its factory settings. Follow the wizard to setup your iPhone 5c again.
It is understandable that you would want to protect the content of your iPhone 5c by enabling a password on it. However, since technology rotates fast, we usually change our devices much faster these days. It only makes sense to sell it off or give it to someone else.
Unless you spring clean your iPhone 5c immediately, there is the high possibility that you would forget the passcode. In this situation, you will not be able to perform a factory setting reset since you will not have the access or authorization to do so.

Turn off your iPhone 5c.
Press and hold down the Home button while connecting your iPhone 5c to your computer using a USB cable. Release when the iTunes logo appears---this indicates that your device has entered Recovery Mode.
Launch iTunes if it does not do so automatically.
On iTunes, click on Restore when prompted.
Wait until iTunes establishes a connection to your device's software update server.
A pop-up message will appear. Click on Restore and Update to confirm the action.
Click Next on the iPhome Software Update window.
Click Agree to accept the terms and conditions. You cannot continue without performing this task.
Wait until iTunes has completely downloaded and installed the latest compatible iOS for your device. This will restore you iPhone 5c to its factory settings.
If you already manually downloaded the latest compatible iOS for your iPhone, follow steps 1--3 above. Thereafter, follow the steps below:
Left-click on Restore while pressing and holding down the Shift key on your keyboard when the iTunes pop-up window appears.
Locate and select the iOS file.
Click Open.
Click Restore.
iTunes should then start restoring you iPhone to its original state.
If it is the Apple ID password you've forgot, we can also try to reset iPhone without Apple ID.
Alternatively, you can use iTunes to reset iPhone 5c to its original settings. There are several steps to this:
Launch iTunes on your computer.
Establish a connection between your iPhone 5c and computer using the USB cable that came with your device.
Follow the wizard on screen if a message requests for your device password or to "Trust This Computer". Get the necessary help if you have forgotten what your password is.
Choose your device when you see it in iTunes.
Click Restore ---it is located in the summary panel.
Click on Restore again to confirm your action---this will delete everything on your device and install the latest compatible iOS for your iPhone 5c.
Once it has finished its deletion task and return your device to its factory settings, it will restart automatically. Follow the setup wizard to set it up as a new device. There are also a few solutions to restore iPhone without iTunes.
There are several steps in the reset iPhone 5c process---it is really useful if your device is frozen:
Press and hold the Home and Power button simultaneously.
Release them once the Apple logo appears. This can take up to 20 seconds.
Wait for your iPhone 5c to boot up---this can take a few minutes so do not be alarmed if the screen remains black for some time.
If your iPhone 5c continues to freeze up, be on high alert to which apps or features that make your device perform this way.
