Method B: Through Android SDK and ADB

This method to capture screen on android is more technical, more advance, smoother and somewhat geeky. The involvement of having or not the root access to the phone has made many users disappointed in using applications for screen recording. Hereby, after the introduction of the Android Version 4.4 Kit Kat, users can obtain benefits from ADB and SDK methods and geeks can get their 'nerdgasms' by applying this method.

Here's what it takes to screencast through ADB and SDK Method:

1. You should have the Android SDK Package downloaded.

2. ADB Drivers. These are the courtesy of CyanogenMod's Koush.

3. Developer's Options should be enabled in your phone. Go to your Phone Settings > About > Tap Build Number 7 Times (Until you see the message "You are now a developer!") > Then Go to Developer Options > Enable USB Debugging.

4. Open Command Prompt on your computer.

Then navigate command prompt to the location where 'Android SDK Folder' is placed by using CD Command. It should look something like:

5. To verify whether ADB Drivers were successfully installed or not, just type in 'adb'. It will also verify whether proper location was set or not.

This prompt will cause things to look something like:

6. Now you are good to go for some screen casting! Type in the command 'adb shell screenrecord /sdcard/INSERT-FILE-NAME.mp4' and press enter key. You will be going live now! You can stop the recording session after pressing CTRL + C.

7. If you want to retrieve the so called 'INSERT-FILE-NAME' back from SD card to your computer, put another command 'adb pull /sdcard/RECORDED-FILE-NAME.mp4 C:/example file name.mp4'. This will cause the saved file to be available on your computer wherever you wanted to save it!

And that's roughly how you guys would record screen through ADB and SDK Method.

Method C: Old School/Hardware Method (For Older Versions of Android like Jelly Bean etc.)

If you guys are unable to apply any of the previously mentioned methods, here's the last resort for you guys to get your Android Device's Screen Recorded. Sadly, it is an expensive method and it requires the following tools:

1. HDMI Recorder. This is going to cost you good sum of money. An example is PCI Express card by Blackmagic.

2. A computer or laptop in which you can install that card.

3. The device you're going to record should have HDMI Port.

After installing the HDMI recorder card in your PC or laptop, and having connected the device. You are ready to go! This method produces high quality video results! I used this method in the past to record screen android.

Conclusion:

  • • Recording your screen on Android device has many different purposes which depend on the user itself. They relate widely to online blogging, and other uses.
  • • Advancement in software technology has made it easier to record screen on your device Android.
  • • If you are running Android Lollipop or above, go straight to Google Play Store and install one of the screen recording apps as explained in Method A.
  • • If you're running your device on Android Kit Kat, have your phone rooted and then apply the Method A.
  • • If you don't want to root your device running on Android Kit Kat, apply the Method B or the Method C.
  • • If you have a device which is running on previous versions of Android, Method C is the choice for you.

Happy recording!
