Tips to Beat Sierra Pokémon Go
Feb 10, 2023 • Filed to: Virtual Location Solutions • Proven solutions
For many Pokémon Go players, getting to beat Team Rocket Go’s Sierra has proven to be an Achilles heel. This is one of the most difficult mini-bosses to beat and this is why you need to know what Pokémon she uses and how you can beat them.
Read on and get more information on the best way to beat the Sierra Pokémon Go team.
Part 1: Which is the best Pokémon to beat sierra

Basically, you should have at least one extremely good Rock Type and a fantastic Fighting Type Pokémon if you want to have a chance at beating Sierra. For this, it is best to have Tyranitar, as the Pokémon to fight off Sierra’s Pokémon that are weak against Rock Type and Dark Type moves. This means that you can effectively protect against Sneasel, Beldum, Hypno, Alakazam, Lapras, and Houndoom. You also need a Fairy-Type Pokémon since this is the only one that can defeat Sableye. To cover your bases against Sableye, you should have a Fairy Type and a Ghost Type Pokémon.
With these points in mind, here is a list of Pokémon that you should aim at having in your Pokedex:
Excadrill, Giratina, Darkrai, Moltres, Pinsir, Scizor, Machamp, Hariyama, Raikou, Electivire, Roserade, Gardevoir, Chandelure, Mamoswine, Togekiss, Groudon, Garchomp, Rampardos, Kyogre, Kingler, Hydreigon, Mewtwo and Metagross.
This is quite a large list but we would advise you to have a team comprising of Metagross, Machamp, Tyranitar, and Mewtwo which has a Psycho Cut and Shadow Ball.
You are most welcome to create your own team from the list above.
Part 2: Which Pokémon Go does sierra use?
Now that you have known how to beat sierra in Pokémon go by creating a powerful team, you should learn more about the Pokémon that she uses in her battles.
The team has undergone an update since February 2020. The table below shows the Pokémon that she has used before and after February 2020.
Team Sierra before February 2020
Round 1 | Round 2 | Round 3 |
Sneasel | Hypno Lapras Sableye |
Alakazam Houndoom Gardevoir |
Team Sierra after February 2020
Round 1 | Round 2 | Round 3 |
Beldum | Exeguttor Lapras Sharpedo |
Shiftry Houndoom Alakazam |
Part 3: How to find sierra Pokémon Go
Late 2019, Pokémon Go Mysterious Components came into being. That is when Pokémon Go Team Rocket was created and Sierra is one of the team members. In order to collect the Mysterious Components, you have to beat Team Rocket Grunts which drop these items for you to collect. Once you have collected six Mysterious Components, You can go ahead and create a Rocket Radar. This is the device, which looks like a compass, which you use to Find Team Rocket Team leaders such as Sierra; the others are Cliff and Arlo.
How to find Mysterious Components

It is quite easy to find Mysterious Components. The Team Rocket Grunts are known to mess up PokéStops, and when you defeat one, it will drop the Mysterious Component. Simply collect six of them and you are ready to create your Rocket Radar.
How to Build a Rocket Radar

Collect all six Mysterious Components and you will be prompted to join them all to form a Rocket Radar. It is as simple as that. Now use this radar to find Sierra and then defeat her.
Part 4: Tips to beat sierra in Pokémon Go
Absol

This is a Sierra Pokémon that has a Psychic or Dar fast move combines with an Electric, Bug, or Dark move. This Pokémon will be a challenge to those that do not possess a Power Up Punch. Some calculators will give you Charm as the best option, which will work very fast to defeat Absol but will not burn down the shields. It is advised that you go for a powerful shield breaker. The best way to defeat Team Sierra Pokémon Go is to start breaking shields right from the start.
The Pokémon strategies that you should use are:
- The Counter and Power Up Punch of Lucario
- The Heavy Slam and Counter of Donphan
- The X-Scissor and Fury Cutter of Scizor
- The Dragon Pulse and Dragon Breath of Hydreigon
Although there are many Pokémon that you can use to break Absol’s shield and defeat him, few will be able to stand up to the other Pokémon that Sierra has up her sleeve. So you might consider evolving a Scizor at this point.
Cacturne

This is another Pokémon in Sierra's team and uses a fast move (Poison or Dark) and a Charge move (Fighting, Dark, or Grass). It is defeated using Fire and Fighting, but Bug moves are the best.
The Pokémon strategies that you should use are:
- The X-Scissor and Fury Cutter of Scizor
- The Power Up Punch or Aura Sphere and Counter of Lucario
- The Iron Head and Bug Bite of Heatran
- The Heavy Slam ad Bug Bite of Forretress
The best option, in this case, is Scizor, and this is going to be the Pokémon that will give you an advantage in all fights with Sierra. You may also use Lucario, which has a great Aura Sphere move. Heatran also stores a powerful arsenal of Bug and Steel moves.
Kadabra

This is a Pokémon with exceptional Psychic fast moves and a Powerful Ghost, Psychic, or Fairy charge move. To beat it, you should look for Bug or Dark move Pokémon.
The Pokémon strategies that you should use are:
- The X-Scissor and Fury Cutter of Scizor
- The Bite and Crunch of Tyranitar
- The Iron Head and Bug Bite of Heatran
- The Dragon Pulse and Bite of Hydreigon
- The Shadow Ball and Bite of Hydreigon
- The Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball of Giratina O
- The Meteor Mash and Bullet Punch of Metagross
Tyranitor and Hydreigin are better alternatives for Scizor in this case. You can also use Forretress, Heatran, and Durant to mimic Scizor’s moves.
Lapras

This is a Pokémon that is strong in Water and Ice fast moves as well as Water, Ice, and Normal charge moves. It is easily defeated when using Rock, Grass, Electric, and Fighting moves.
The Pokémon strategies that you should use are:
- The Power Up Punch or Aura Sphere and Counter of Lucario
- The Wild Charge and Spark of Magenzone
- The Rock Slide and Thunderstock of Melmetal
- The Leaf Blade and Razor Leaf of Leafeon
- The Frenzy Plant and Vine Whip of Venusaur
Of all these Pokémon, the best to beat Lapras would be Lucarios. If this proves to be too much, then try Melmetal or Magenzone.
When it comes to round 3, Sierra will use one of the following:
Shiftry

This is a Pokémon that fights using Dark and Grass fast moves, with Flying, Dark, and Grass charge moves. This makes it seem to mimic Cacturne. The best way to defeat it is to use Bug, Fighting, or Fire moves.
The Pokémon strategies that you should use are:
- The X-Scissor and Fury Cutter of Scizor
- The Power Up Punch and Aura Sphere of Lucario
- The Iron Head and Bug Bite of Heatran
- The Heavy Slam and Bug Bite of Forretress
You may also use Heracross, Blaziken, Moltres, and Durant. Scizor will also do well in this case.
Houndoom

This is a Pokémon that is very adept at using Fire or Dark fast moves and charge moves. Ideally, you need Rock, Water, Fighting, or Ground Pokémon, which makes Scizor a bad choice in this case.
The Pokémon strategies that you should use are:
- The Stone Edge and Smack Down of Tyranitar
- The Rock Slide and Rock Throw of Terrakion
- The Surf and Waterfall of Kyogre
- The Dragon Pulse and Dragon Breath of Hydreigon
Gallade

This is a Pokémon that uses Psychic, Fairy or Fighting fast moves and Fighting, Grass, and Psychic charge moves. It can easily be defeated using Ghost, Flying, and Fairy Pokémon.
The Pokémon strategies that you should use are:
- The Sky Attack and Extrasensory of Lugia
- The Ominous Wind and Shadow Claw of Giratina Original
- The Sky Attack and Wing Attack of Moltres
- The Meteor Mash and Wing Attack of Moltres
- The Meteor Mash and Bullet Punch of Metagross
- The Dragon Claw and Dragon Breath of Dragonite
Lucky for you that Gallade is a very fragile Pokémon. You can easily conquer it using neutral damage. However, Gallade hits hard and fast. If you do not have a hard response, then it might take the rest of your team to bring it down.
In Conclusion
As you can see, the issue of defeating Sierra Pokémon Go Team Rocket is a very difficult one. It requires you to take note of the powers of the Pokémon that she has and find out how you can build a team that will beat them all. This is not an easy task as it means preparing yourself with a team right from the word go. You have eight levels before you can meet Sierra so you had better use these levels wisely and be prepared when the time comes to take her down.
