WhatsApp has literally become the lifeline for many, especially if you are someone like me. I use it for communicating with everyone, family, friends, colleagues at work, vendors, and more. That is the case with a lot of us, I am sure.

In fact, most of us have fallen in love with this wonderful app, aptly so as WhatsApp has introduced very many good features that are really helpful. One of them is the 'Group' feature that lets one create a group with as many as members as you want, and have group chats.

Today, I am going to share with you a few of the most important tips and tricks around WhatsApp Groups, and how you can make the most out of this amazing feature.

Part 1: Create a WhatsApp Group

You must know this already, however, if you have not yet created a group, here are the simple steps involved. I will be laying down the steps for both iOS and Android users.

Steps for iOS users

Step 1 - Go to your iOS menu and tap on the WhatsApp icon to launch the app.

There it is, it's that simple to create a WhatsApp Group. Now, you can go ahead and create as many as Groups as you want and chat with different set of people you want to communicate at the same time.

Part 2: Some rules for creative group names

Creating a group is the easiest part, however, when it comes to selecting a real good name for the group, many among us face quite a bit of a challenge. You have to remember that the group name is a very important element, especially when you want everyone in the group to identify with it.

My advice is that you keep the name light and as casual as possible. The whole idea behind creating WhatsApp group is to have some fun while communicating at the same time, a casual name would fit this purpose well.

One thing to be kept in mind is that the group names can only have a maximum of 25 characters including space.

Part 3: Silence a WhatsApp group

Now, with groups there comes a peril as well. Since, a WhatsApp group usually has many people in it, messages can be popping up all the time. So much so that at times, it can get a bit out of hand and one could be looking for ways to stop getting alerts for so many frequssages.

Worry not, as WhatsApp had already taken a situation like this into account, and hence has offered the feature of putting the alerts on mute or silence, without having to leave the group. All that you have to do is to go to the group chat and then tap on the group name, which will open the Group Info screen.

Now, scroll down a bit and you will see the option of 'Mute', tap on it and you can select from the 3 durations (8 Hours, 1 Week, and 1 Year) to put the group on mute. For example, if you select the option of '8 Hours', then for the next 8 hours, you won't get any alerts for the messages being sent in the group.

Part 4: Permanently delete a WhatsApp group

Deleting a WhatsApp group is tricky, as it is not a very direct thing to do. One cannot simply delete the group and be done with it. The reason behind it is that even after you exit and delete the group on your device, if the remaining members are still on that group, it will stay active.

So, the way to do this is to first ensure that you remove all the members, one by one, from the group. You have to be an 'admin' to be able to do this. Once you have removed all the members except you, you can exit the group, and then delete the group from your device.

Part 5: WhatsApp group chat last seen

Now, no matter you are the admin of the group or just a member, you can only check the last seen details of your own messages and no one else in the group. All that you have to do is, tap on your message and hold until a list of options pop up. From this list, click on the option 'Info' (iOS devices) or tap on the info icon (Android devices) to check who all have read your message and when.

Part 6: Transfer WhatsApp group admin

Suppose, you want to exit the group but not delete it, and want that someone else becomes the admin of the group, you can easily achieve that. Simply, go to Group Info section for your group, and then tap on the member you want to make an admin, from the next set of options that pop up, select 'Make Group Admin'.

Once done, you can exit the group and let the new admin handle the group from there on.

Part 7: Delete a message on WhatsApp group

Unfortunately, if a message has been sent successfully (with the tick mark) then there's no way you can delete the message from others phone.

However, many a times it happens that due to the network or connectivity issues, messages on WhatsApp do not instantly get sent. In such cases, if you were to delete the message before the appearance of tick mark, then it wouldn't get sent to anyone in the group.

Well, with these 7 tips, you are for sure going to enjoy not just creating new groups but also using them as needed. Do let us know in the comments section if you have anymore tips or tricks on WhatsApp groups to share.
