Jul 12, 2024 • Filed to: Manage Social Apps • Proven solutions
Humans have limited mental capabilities and often forget complicated passwords. To be precise according to a study around 78 percent of people forget their passwords and then try to reset them. That’s a highly daunting number and can lead to very serious problems if there’s any important information hidden on the other end of that password. The same problem can occur if you forget the WhatsApp password which can lead to severe stress and anxiety.
WhatsApp has become extremely popular as secure communication and messaging app with more than 2 billion active users around the world. I’ll introduce how to unlock WhatsApp in case you forget your password without requiring any prior technical knowledge and a powerhouse toolkit from Wondershare to back up WhatsApp.
Part 1. How to Lock WhatsApp with Password?
WhatsApp introduced the Touch ID and Face ID lock feature in the app to provide an extra layer of privacy for its billions of users around the globe. Using this feature, you can prompt fingerprint lock when you try to open WhatsApp on your mobile device. If this feature is enabled, you will have to unlock with either your fingers or face recognition to unlock the app and use it.
WhatsApp won’t require you to add your fingerprint or face again when you enable the function in the app. It will rely on the systems recorded authentication credentials.
Lock WhatsApp on Android
The steps for how to enable fingerprint lock are:
Step 1: Go to WhatsApp and then open the “Options menu” and the three-dotted icon at the top right corner then tap “Settings”.
Step 2: Inside the Settings go to “Account” and then “Privacy”. At the bottom, you’ll see the “fingerprint lock” option, tap that
Step 3: Once inside the Fingerprint lock option you’ll see a toggle button named “Unlock with fingerprint” turn it on
Step 4: You’ll be asked to touch the fingerprint sensor to save your fingerprint
Step 5: You can select the timeslot after which you’ll be needed to authenticate with your fingerprint and also if you want to show content in the notifications bar or not
Note: This feature is only available on Android devices and in order to use this feature fingerprint lock must be enabled in the phone’s settings. Another thing to note here is you’ll still be able to answer WhatsApp calls even if the app is locked.
Lock WhatsApp on iOS
Apple has removed the fingerprint sensor from its recent iPhone versions so WhatsApp on iOS has introduced Face ID login. Though Touch ID is supported as well for older models of the Apple family.
With iOS 9+ you can either enable Face ID or Touch ID by the following steps:
Step 1: Inside WhatsApp go to the “Settings menu” and then to “Account”, then “Privacy” and finally click on the “Screen Lock” option
Step 2: If you have a newer version of iPhone, you’ll see Face ID otherwise Touch ID, turn on Require Face ID
Step 3: You can define the amount of time before WhatsApp prompts you for Touch ID or Face ID authentication
Note: You’ll be able to reply to messages from the notification and answer calls even when the app is locked. To use either Face ID or Touch ID they must be enabled from iPhone settings. If both authentication methods fail, you access WhatsApp using your iPhone’s fallback passcode to log into the app.
Part 2. How to Unlock WhatsApp without Password? No Data Loss!
People often send and receive private and critical information on WhatsApp, so forgetting the password can lead to serious problems and stress. To save you from worrying I’ve shown here the only few ways available to unlock WhatsApp with no data loss.
Phase 1 Backup WhatsApp to local phone
WhatsApp automatically makes regular backups on the local storage of your device in addition to saving it on the Google Drive online backup. The local backup is saved as an encrypted file and can be used to restore the chats on the same or any other device for that matter.
WhatsApp takes the local backup on the local storage daily when the device usage is at its minimum. The local backup will be stored for the last 7 days and will be discarded after the period automatically. If you’d like to take a fresh local backup of your WhatsApp chats, follow the steps below.
Step 1: Open the app and head to the “Settings” menu at the top right corner.
Step 2: In Settings, tap on “Chats” and then “Chat Backup” you’ll find a green Backup button with the details of the most recent backup size and time.
Step 3: Press the “Back up” button, this will back up your WhatsApp chat to Google Drive while a copy will be automatically saved on the local internal storage.
Note: Even if you did not get the opportunity to manually perform the WhatsApp backup you can find the most recent backup of your chats in the internal storage. Keep studying to find out the process.
Phase 2 Reinstall WhatsApp and restore from local backup
If you’ve forgotten your WhatsApp password and are unable to log in to the application. If you’ve maintained a local backup, you’ll be able to restore your chats easily. However, first, locate the local backup on the local storage and rename it. Once all these things are done you can now uninstall the application and reinstall. All this might sound confusing that’s why I’m going to explain each step thoroughly here.
Step 1: Once you’ve taken a local backup of WhatsApp you can access it via the File Manager application of your device.
Step 2: Head to the Device Storage and find “WhatsApp” then “Databases” or if you installed your WhatsApp on SD card find the backup file in your SD card.
Step 3: In the Databases, you can find the local backups of the last 7 days in this format – “msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db”. Select the recent backup that you want to restore and rename it to “msgstore.db”.
Step 4: Now uninstall WhatsApp from your device and reinstall it from the Google Play Store.
Step 5: Once reinstalled enter the same mobile number to start the process of recovery. The app will automatically detect the local backup. You will be prompted to restore by pressing the “Restore” button and waiting for a few seconds to minutes, depending on the size of your backup. All of your recent chats and attachments will be restored and ready to be used.
WhatsApp will no longer require a password to unlock, as it is a brand-new WhatsApp install with all of your recent chats and media with only one difference and that is no password protection on the application.
