How to Delete Junk Files and Clear Cache on Xiaomi Safely
Clearing cache and junk files on Xiaomi is safe, free, and takes under 2 minutes. Here's what to delete — and what to leave alone.
What Is Junk / Cache?
- App cache: Temporary files apps create to load faster (safe to delete)
- Residual files: Leftover files from uninstalled apps (safe to delete)
- APK installer files: Leftover installation packages (safe to delete)
- Log files: System and app logs (safe to delete)
- Thumbnail cache: Previews for photos/videos (safe to delete — regenerates automatically)
Method 1: Phone Manager (Security App) — Recommended
- Open the Security (Phone Manager) app
- Tap "Clean" or "Cleaner"
- Tap "Scan" — HyperOS finds junk across all categories
- Review what was found (you can expand each category)
- Tap "Clean Up" to delete
This is the safest method — the built-in cleaner knows what's system-critical and won't delete anything important.
Method 2: Clear All App Cache at Once
Settings → Additional Settings → Storage → "Cached Data" → tap to clear all. Clears cache for every app simultaneously.
Method 3: Clear Cache for Specific Apps
Settings → Apps → Manage Apps → [App] → "Clear Cache"
Best for apps that misbehave or have grown large caches: Chrome, Instagram, TikTok, Maps.
What NOT to Delete
| Data Type | Safe to Delete? |
|---|---|
| App cache | ✅ Always safe |
| App data | ⚠️ Deletes logins/settings — think first |
| System data | ❌ Do not delete |
| Downloads folder content | ⚠️ Review manually — may have files you need |
Avoid Third-Party "Cleaner" Apps
Apps like "Phone Cleaner Pro" or "Junk File Cleaner" from unknown developers often do less than the built-in cleaner while displaying intrusive ads. Stick with Xiaomi's Security app for cleaning.
