How to Enable Always-On Display (AOD) on Xiaomi Phones

Always-On Display (AOD) keeps your Xiaomi screen showing the time, date, battery level, and notification icons at very low brightness — even when locked. Here's how to set it up.

How to Enable AOD
  1. Go to Settings > Display
  2. Tap "Always-On Display" (or "Ambient Display" on some older MIUI versions)
  3. Toggle it ON
AOD Display Styles

HyperOS offers several AOD styles:

  • Clock only — minimal, battery-friendly
  • Clock + notification icons — see which apps have pending notifications
  • Artistic / Pattern — decorative designs (some available in Themes app)
  • Custom image — use your own photo as the AOD background (HyperOS 2)

Tap "Change Style" to browse and apply options.

Schedule AOD (Recommended for Battery)

Instead of keeping AOD on 24/7, schedule it:
Settings > Display > Always-On Display > "Scheduled" → set it to only show during your waking hours (e.g., 7:00 AM – 11:00 PM).

This significantly reduces AMOLED pixel wear and battery impact.

AOD and Battery Impact
AOD Mode Battery Impact
Always on (24/7) ~5–8% extra per day
Scheduled (16 hours) ~3–5% extra per day
"Show on touch" mode ~1% extra per day

For the lowest impact, set AOD to "Show only when I pick up the phone" (Raise to Wake).

AOD on AMOLED vs LCD Screens

AOD is an AMOLED-only feature. Xiaomi phones with LCD panels (budget Redmi models) do not support true AOD since LCD requires full backlight activation. Check if your model has AMOLED before expecting this feature.
