How to Enable and Use App Permissions Manager on Xiaomi HyperOS
App permissions control what your installed apps can access — camera, microphone, location, contacts, and more. HyperOS provides a comprehensive permissions manager. Here's how to use it.
Accessing the Permissions Manager
Method 1 – Per App:
Settings → Apps → Manage Apps → [App] → Permissions
Method 2 – By Permission Type:
Settings → Privacy → Permission Manager (or Settings → Apps → Permission Manager)
Permission Manager by type lets you see all apps that have access to a specific resource (e.g., all apps with microphone access).
Key Permissions to Review
| Permission | Risk if Misused | Recommended Setting |
|---|---|---|
| Location | Tracks your whereabouts | "While using" only — not "Always" |
| Microphone | Can record audio | Only apps that need it (calling, voice apps) |
| Camera | Can take photos | Only apps that need it |
| Contacts | Shares your contact list | Messaging apps only |
| Storage | Access to all files | Limit to apps that need to save files |
| Phone | Can make/read calls | Phone app only |
Run a Privacy Checkup
Settings > Privacy > Privacy Checkup — HyperOS guides you through a scan of potentially risky permissions and suggests which ones to revoke.
One-Time Permissions
When an app requests camera or microphone, HyperOS offers "Only this time" — this grants access for the current session only. The app must ask again next time.
Xiaomi's Behavior Logs
HyperOS 2 adds a Privacy Dashboard showing a 7-day timeline of when each app accessed permissions. Go to Settings > Privacy > Privacy Dashboard to review which apps accessed your camera, mic, or location recently.
