How to Enable and Use WLAN+ (Auto-Switch Wi-Fi and Data) on Xiaomi
WLAN+ is a Xiaomi HyperOS feature that automatically switches your phone between Wi-Fi and mobile data based on network quality. Here's how it works and when to use it.
What Is WLAN+?
WLAN+ monitors your Wi-Fi connection quality in real time. If it detects poor Wi-Fi (e.g., weak signal, congested router, or internet outage), it automatically routes traffic through your mobile data instead — without you doing anything.
When Wi-Fi quality improves, it switches back to Wi-Fi automatically.
How to Enable WLAN+
- Go to Settings > Wi-Fi
- Tap the ⋮ (three-dot) menu or "Advanced Settings"
- Find "WLAN+" and toggle it ON
Or: open Control Center → long-press the Wi-Fi icon → WLAN+ toggle.
WLAN+ Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Always connected to the best available network | May use mobile data unexpectedly |
| No manual switching needed | Can reduce data plan faster |
| Prevents buffering on weak Wi-Fi | May cause connection drops during switch |
| Good for borderline Wi-Fi coverage areas | Some VPNs get disconnected during switch |
When to Disable WLAN+
Turn WLAN+ OFF when:
- You have a limited mobile data plan and don't want accidental usage
- You're using a VPN that needs a stable connection
- You're troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues (WLAN+ can mask connection problems)
- You're tethered to a hotspot and don't want loop switching
WLAN+ vs. Dual Wi-Fi Acceleration
Some Xiaomi phones (Xiaomi 14, 15 series) also support Dual Wi-Fi Acceleration, which uses both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands simultaneously for maximum throughput. This is separate from WLAN+ and found in Wi-Fi Advanced Settings.
