How to Fix Google Play Store Not Working on Xiaomi Phone
The Google Play Store sometimes stops working on Xiaomi phones due to cache issues, account sync problems, or date/time errors. Here's how to fix it.
Common Play Store Errors on Xiaomi
- Play Store won't open / crashes immediately
- "Error retrieving information from server"
- Apps stuck downloading at 0%
- Play Protect showing errors
- "Google Play Services has stopped"
Fix 1: Clear Play Store Cache and Data
Settings → Apps → Manage Apps → search "Google Play Store" → Clear cache → Clear data.
Also repeat for Google Play Services: Settings → Apps → Manage Apps → ⋮ → Show system apps → Google Play Services → Clear cache.
Restart the phone and open Play Store again.
Fix 2: Check Date and Time Settings
An incorrect date/time causes SSL certificate errors that break Play Store authentication.
Settings → Additional Settings → Date & Time → enable "Set automatically" (sync with network time).
Fix 3: Remove and Re-add Google Account
Settings → Google → (your account) → Remove account → restart phone → Settings → Accounts → Add Google account → sign back in.
This refreshes the authentication token used by Play Store.
Fix 4: Set Google Play Services to No Restrictions
Settings → Apps → Manage Apps → ⋮ → Show system apps → Google Play Services → Battery Saver → No restrictions. Also enable Autostart for Google Play Services.
HyperOS's aggressive battery management sometimes kills Google services, breaking Play Store connectivity.
Fix 5: Update Google Play Services
Visit apkmirror.com → search "Google Play Services" → download the latest APK for your architecture (arm64-v8a for most Xiaomi phones) → install it. This bypasses the Play Store to update the service it depends on.
Fix 6: Reset App Preferences
Settings → Apps → Manage Apps → ⋮ → Reset app preferences. This restores default permissions and defaults for all apps without deleting data.
