How to Fix Xiaomi Phone Not Turning On or Black Screen

A Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO phone that won't power on or shows only a black screen can often be revived. Work through these steps before assuming it's broken.

Step 1: Charge It First

If the battery is completely dead, the phone won't respond at all. Plug it into the original Xiaomi charger and leave it for 15–30 minutes before attempting to power on. Look for a charging indicator on screen.

Step 2: Force Restart

Hold Power button for 10–15 seconds. On some models, hold Power + Volume Down for 10 seconds. This forces the CPU to reboot regardless of software state.

Step 3: Check the Screen (Is It On But Dark?)

In a dark room, shine a flashlight at the screen at an angle. If you can faintly see the interface, the backlight has failed — a hardware issue requiring screen replacement. The phone itself may be working.

Step 4: Try a Different Charger and Cable

A faulty charger won't supply enough power for the phone to boot. Try the original Xiaomi charger or a known-good USB-C cable.

Step 5: Enter Recovery Mode

Hold Power + Volume Up. If the Recovery screen appears, the phone is alive but has a software issue. Select "Wipe Cache" first; if that doesn't boot the phone, try "Wipe Data / Factory Reset".

Step 6: Re-flash via Mi Flash Tool (PC Required)
  1. Download the correct HyperOS ROM for your model
  2. Install Mi Flash Tool on Windows
  3. Enter Fastboot Mode (Power + Volume Down while off)
  4. Flash the ROM — this restores the operating system
Step 7: Visit Xiaomi Service Center

If the phone doesn't respond to charging, force restart, or Mi Flash Tool, the issue is likely hardware — battery, power IC, or screen. Professional repair is needed.

Dr.Fone – System Repair can repair Xiaomi Android system issues (including boot failures) without data loss, as an alternative to manual flashing.
