How to Free Up Storage Space on Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO Phone
A full storage doesn't just prevent new downloads — it slows down your entire Xiaomi phone. Here's how to reclaim space quickly and keep it clean.
Step 1: Run the Built-in Cleaner
Open the Phone Manager (Security) app → tap "Clean" or "Cleaner". HyperOS scans for:
- App residual files and caches
- Temporary system files
- Large log files
- Redundant APK installers
Tap "Clean Up" to delete everything found. This typically frees 500 MB – 3 GB instantly.
Step 2: Clear App Cache Individually
For apps that accumulate large caches (browsers, streaming apps):
Settings > Apps > Manage Apps > [App] > Clear Cache
Common large caches: Chrome, YouTube, Spotify, Google Maps, TikTok.
Step 3: Delete Duplicate Photos and Large Files
Settings > Storage > Manage Storage > Large Files — HyperOS lists your largest files. Review and delete ones you no longer need (old videos, downloaded files, APKs).
Use Google Photos → Library → Utilities → "Free up space" to delete photos already backed up to the cloud.
Step 4: Uninstall Unused Apps
Settings > Apps > Manage Apps → sort by "Size" → uninstall apps you haven't used in months.
Step 5: Move Media to Cloud
Enable Google Photos backup or Mi Cloud → once backed up, delete local copies to reclaim storage.
Step 6: Insert an SD Card (If Supported)
Some Xiaomi/Redmi models support microSD cards (up to 1 TB). Check your model's specs — if supported, insert an SD card and move photos/downloads there.
