How to Enable Built-In Fraud Detection on Xiaomi Security App

Xiaomi's Security app (pre-installed on all MIUI/HyperOS phones) includes several anti-fraud tools that most users never discover. Here's how to activate them.

Open the Security App
  1. Find Security app in the app drawer (shield icon).
  2. Or: Settings → Privacy → Security app on some HyperOS builds.

Feature 1 – Phone Shield (Call Fraud Detection)
  1. Open Security → Phone & SMS filter.
  2. Enable Caller ID and spam protection.
  3. Unknown callers are checked against Xiaomi's crowdsourced scam database.
  4. Suspicious calls are flagged with a warning banner: "Suspected fraud" or "Telemarketing."

Feature 2 – SMS Filter (Scam Text Detection)
  1. Security → Phone & SMS filter → SMS filter → enable.
  2. Xiaomi scans incoming SMS for:
    - Phishing links.
    - Fraudulent OTP scams.
    - Fake bank/delivery notifications.
  3. Suspected spam SMS is moved to a Spam folder, not your main inbox.

Feature 3 – App Scanning (Virus & Malware)
  1. Security → Virus scan.
  2. Tap Scan — Xiaomi Security checks all installed apps against its threat database.
  3. Suspicious apps are flagged and quarantined.
  4. Enable Auto scan: Security → Settings → Auto scan → on.

Feature 4 – Payment Shield
  1. Security → Payment protection → enable.
  2. When a banking or payment app is opened, Xiaomi scans for:
    - Screen overlay attacks (other apps drawing over your banking screen).
    - Suspicious background apps running during payment.
    - Accessibility service abuse.
  3. Alerts you if a potential threat is detected before you enter credentials.

Feature 5 – Data Breach Monitoring
  1. Security → Privacy → Check for leaks.
  2. Enter your email address.
  3. Xiaomi checks against known data breach databases.
  4. Alerts you if your email appears in leaked databases — prompts password change.

Pro Tips
  • Keep the Security app updated via Google Play or MIUI App Store — scam databases update frequently.
  • Even with all protections on, never share OTPs over the phone — legitimate banks and services never ask for them.
  • If you receive a suspicious call, check the number at shouldianswer.com or similar community scam reporting sites.
