How to Enable Dolby Atmos or Dirac Audio on Xiaomi / Redmi Phones

How to Enable Dolby Atmos or Dirac Audio on Xiaomi / Redmi Phones

Xiaomi uses different audio enhancement technologies across its lineup. Here's how to find and enable them.

Which Technology Does Your Phone Use?
Brand/Series Audio Technology
Xiaomi 13 / 14 / 15 series Dolby Atmos (global) or Xiaomi Spatial Audio
Redmi Note 13 / 14 series Dolby Atmos (some models)
POCO F series Dirac Audio (F4, F5) or Hi-Res Stereo
Redmi budget series Basic stereo enhancement (no Dolby/Dirac)

Check your model's spec page on mi.com to confirm which technology is included.

How to Enable Dolby Atmos

On HyperOS:
1. Settings → Sound & vibration → Dolby Atmos.
2. Toggle Dolby Atmos on.
3. Choose a preset:
- Auto — adjusts per content type
- Movie — wider surround field
- Music — enhanced stereo width
- Voice — clarity for calls/podcasts
- Game — positional audio for gaming

During Media Playback:
Swipe down notification panel → tap Dolby Atmos tile to toggle quickly.

How to Enable Dirac Audio (POCO & Select Redmi)

On POCO HyperOS / MIUI:
1. Settings → Sound & vibration → Sound Enhancement → Dirac.
2. Enable Dirac and select an EQ preset or customize manually.

Headphone vs Speaker Mode

Both Dolby Atmos and Dirac have separate profiles:
- Speakers: Enhances stereo separation and low-end from the phone's built-in speakers.
- Headphones: Creates virtual surround sound (binaural) for wired/wireless headphones.

The phone usually switches profiles automatically when headphones are plugged in/connected via Bluetooth.

Manual EQ Settings (if no Dolby/Dirac)
  1. Settings → Sound & vibration → Sound Enhancement (or Music App EQ).
  2. Enable Equalizer.
  3. Presets: Flat, Bass Boost, Treble, Vocal, Custom.

Hi-Res Audio Certification

Several Xiaomi phones are Hi-Res Audio certified (Android Audio), meaning the DAC supports 24-bit/192kHz output. To take advantage:
- Use Hi-Res wired headphones via USB-C with a Hi-Res USB-C DAC adapter.
- Play FLAC, ALAC, or WAV files using a Hi-Res capable music player (Poweramp, USB Audio Player Pro).

Pro Tips
  • For the best wireless audio experience, enable LDAC codec: Settings → Bluetooth → [headphone name] → Audio codec → LDAC.
  • Dolby Atmos is most noticeable on headphones watching movies — less impactful from small phone speakers.
  • If Dolby Atmos disappears after a HyperOS update, re-enable it in Settings — updates sometimes reset audio preferences.

💡 Dr.Fone Tip: Want the best audio experience from your Xiaomi library? Dr.Fone – Music Manager helps you organize, convert, and sync Hi-Res audio files to your Redmi or POCO phone.
