How to Increase Font Size and Text Zoom on Xiaomi / Redmi for Seniors
Small text is one of the most common complaints among senior Xiaomi users. HyperOS and MIUI make it easy to enlarge text and the entire UI without technical knowledge.
Increase Font Size
- Settings → Display → Text size.
- Drag the slider to the right to increase font size.
- Preview updates live — choose "Large" or "Extra Large" for seniors.
Increase Display (Icon & UI) Size
Font size only changes text. To make everything larger (icons, buttons, app layouts):
1. Settings → Display → Display size (also called Screen size).
2. Drag the slider to Larger — all UI elements, icons, and layouts scale up.
3. "Larger" or "Largest" makes the most difference.
Best practice: Set both Text size = Large and Display size = Large for seniors.
Text Zoom in Mi Browser
For easier web reading:
1. Open Mi Browser → ⋮ → Settings → Accessibility → Text scaling.
2. Set to 125% or 150% for larger web text.
Chrome: Settings → Accessibility → Text scaling slider.
Bold Text
- Settings → Display → Bold text → toggle on.
- Bold text improves readability for seniors with reduced contrast sensitivity.
High Contrast Mode
- Settings → Additional Settings → Accessibility → High contrast text → on.
- Makes text appear sharper against backgrounds.
Display Magnifier (Pinch-to-Zoom Anywhere)
For temporarily zooming into any part of the screen:
1. Settings → Additional Settings → Accessibility → Magnification.
2. Enable Magnification shortcut.
3. A button appears in the navigation bar — tap it, then tap the screen to zoom in.

Pro Tips
- If a family member is setting up the phone for an elderly parent, also enable Easy Mode (covered in the next article) for the most senior-friendly experience.
- Display size Large may cause some apps to hide certain UI elements off-screen — if this happens, restore to Default display size and rely only on larger font size.
