How to Record Screen on Xiaomi Phone with Internal Audio

Xiaomi has a built-in screen recorder on both MIUI and HyperOS — no third-party app required. Here's how to capture your screen with sound.

Start Screen Recording

Method 1 – Quick Settings:
1. Swipe down to open the notification panel (swipe twice for full Quick Settings).
2. Tap the Screen recorder tile.
3. If not visible: tap Edit → drag Screen recorder to the active tiles area.

Method 2 – Game Turbo (during games):
- Open the Game Turbo sidebar → tap Screen record.

Audio Settings Before Recording

Before tapping Record, configure the audio source:

Audio Option What It Records
No audio Silent recording — video only
Internal audio App sounds, music, game audio only
Microphone Your voice from phone microphone only
Internal + Microphone Both app audio and your voice (best for commentary)

Set this in: Quick Settings → Screen recorder → tap the settings icon (gear) before starting.

Or: Settings → Apps → Screen recorder → Audio to set a default.

Resolution and Quality Settings
  1. Open Screen recorder settings (gear icon before starting).
  2. Set:
    • Video resolution: 720p / 1080p / 2K (2K requires flagship/mid-range models).
    • Frame rate: 30fps (standard) or 60fps (smooth, larger file).
    • Orientation: Auto / Portrait / Landscape.

Show Touches During Recording

To highlight taps (useful for tutorials):
- Screen recorder settings → Show touches → toggle on.
- A visual dot appears wherever you tap during the recording.

Stop and Access Recording
  • Tap the red recording timer in the status bar → Stop.
  • Or pull down notifications → tap Stop recording.
  • Video is saved to Gallery → Albums → Screen recordings (MP4 format).

File Size Reference
Quality 1 minute approx.
720p 30fps ~40 MB
1080p 30fps ~80 MB
1080p 60fps ~140 MB
2K 30fps ~160 MB

Fix: Screen Recorder Has No Sound

If internal audio is silent:
1. Confirm the app you're recording is playing audio (test with headphones).
2. Some streaming apps (Netflix, Disney+) block internal audio capture — this is a DRM restriction, not a bug.
3. For those apps, use Microphone mode and play near external speakers as a workaround.

Pro Tips
  • Recorded videos can be edited directly in Gallery → Video editor to trim, add text, or adjust speed.
  • For long recordings (tutorials, gameplay), enable "Do Not Disturb" first to prevent notification pop-ups appearing on screen.
