How to Set Screen Time Limits on Xiaomi Phone Using Digital Wellbeing

Digital Wellbeing is a built-in Android tool that tracks usage and lets you set time limits for individual apps — no third-party app needed.

Access Digital Wellbeing
  1. Settings → Digital Wellbeing & Parental Controls.
  2. The dashboard shows today's screen time, most-used apps, and notifications received.

Set a Daily App Timer
  1. In Digital Wellbeing → tap Dashboard.
  2. You see a pie chart and list of apps with their daily usage.
  3. Tap any app → tap the hourglass icon next to it → set a timer (e.g., 1 hour).
  4. When the timer runs out, the app's icon grays out and shows a lock.
  5. The app resets to usable again at midnight.

Set Bedtime Mode / Wind Down

Automatically restrict phone use at night:
1. Digital Wellbeing → Bedtime mode.
2. Set start time (e.g., 9:00 PM) and end time (e.g., 7:00 AM).
3. During bedtime: screen turns grayscale + Do Not Disturb activates.
4. Optional: Block all apps during bedtime (most strict).

Set Focus Mode (Study / Work Time)
  1. Digital Wellbeing → Focus mode.
  2. Select apps to pause (e.g., TikTok, Instagram, games).
  3. Tap Turn on now or schedule it (e.g., 3 PM–5 PM weekdays).
  4. Paused apps cannot be opened until Focus mode ends or is manually turned off.

Prevent Kids from Overriding Limits

Kids can get around app timers by:
- Going to Digital Wellbeing and deleting timers.
- Uninstalling Digital Wellbeing.

To prevent this:
1. Settings → Apps → Digital Wellbeing → enable "Pause app timers" restriction (some builds).
2. Use Google Family Link instead — parents control limits remotely, and children cannot change them.

Weekly Usage Reports
  1. Digital Wellbeing → Manage your data.
  2. View weekly screen time by category (social, games, productivity).
  3. Use this to have an informed conversation with kids about usage habits.

Pro Tips
  • On HyperOS, there may be a separate Kids Timer under Special Features — check both locations.
  • App timers reset daily at midnight — if your child stays up past midnight, the timer resets automatically.
  • Educational apps like Google Classroom or Khan Academy can be excluded from Focus mode restrictions.
