How to Set Up and Use Mi Cloud for Backup on Xiaomi / Redmi
Mi Cloud is Xiaomi's built-in cloud service — like iCloud for iPhone. It backs up contacts, photos, notes, call logs, settings, and SMS automatically.
Step 1 – Sign In to Mi Account
Mi Cloud requires a Mi Account:
1. Settings → Mi Account → sign in or create an account.
2. Once signed in, Mi Cloud is automatically available.
Step 2 – Enable Mi Cloud Backup
- Settings → Mi Account → Mi Cloud.
- Toggle on the items you want to sync:
| Data Type | Sync Toggle |
|---|---|
| Contacts | ✅ Recommended |
| Photos & Videos | ✅ Recommended |
| Notes | ✅ |
| Reminders | ✅ |
| Settings | ✅ |
| SMS | Optional |
| Call logs | Optional |
| Calendar | Optional |
Step 3 – Configure Auto-Backup
- Mi Cloud → Photos → Sync settings → Auto backup.
- Choose: Wi-Fi only (recommended) or Wi-Fi + mobile data.
- Set backup frequency: Daily / Weekly.
- Enable Back up while charging only to avoid draining battery.

Pro Tips
- Photos in Mi Cloud are stored in original quality (no compression by default) — unlike Google Photos' compressed backup.
- If your Mi Cloud fills up, clear duplicate and low-quality photos first via Mi Cloud → Photos → Manage.
- Mi Cloud photos can be shared with family members using shared albums — useful for family photo pools.
