How to Set Up Emergency SOS on Xiaomi / Redmi Phone for Safety

Emergency SOS lets you quickly call for help by pressing the power button multiple times — no need to unlock the phone or navigate menus.

Enable Emergency SOS

On HyperOS:
1. Settings → Safety & Emergency (or search "Emergency SOS").
2. Tap Emergency SOS.
3. Toggle Use Emergency SOS on.
4. Configure:
- Press power button 5 times (or 3 times on some models) to trigger SOS.
- Enable Countdown — 3-second delay before calling (with loud alarm) so accidental triggers can be cancelled.
- Enable Call emergency services → set to local emergency number (112, 911, 999, etc.).

On MIUI 14:
1. Settings → Passwords & Security → Emergency SOS → enable.

Set Emergency Contacts

In addition to emergency services, add personal emergency contacts:
1. Settings → Safety & Emergency → Emergency contacts → Add contact.
2. Add family members or caregivers.
3. When SOS is triggered, these contacts receive an SMS with your GPS location automatically.

Fill In Medical Information

Emergency services can see your medical info on the lock screen:
1. Settings → Safety & Emergency → Medical information.
2. Add: Blood type, allergies, medications, doctor name, emergency contact.
3. This info is visible on the lock screen without unlocking — accessible to paramedics.

How to Trigger Emergency SOS
  1. Press the Power button 5 times rapidly (within 2 seconds).
  2. The phone plays a loud alarm and shows a countdown.
  3. If not cancelled, the phone calls the emergency number and texts emergency contacts with location.
  4. Some models also take a front/rear camera photo and send it.

Disable Accidental SOS Triggers

To prevent accidental calls:
- Enable Countdown before call → gives 3 seconds to cancel.
- On older MIUI, disable the quick power-button shortcut if it triggers calls unintentionally.

Pro Tips
  • Test the SOS function once after setup to confirm it works correctly — test with Countdown enabled so you can cancel before it actually calls.
  • The emergency number is auto-set based on your SIM's registered country — confirm it matches your local emergency number.
