How to Take Better Outdoor Photos in Bright Sunlight on Xiaomi

Bright sunlight is one of the trickiest conditions for smartphone cameras. Here's how to get sharp, well-exposed outdoor shots on Xiaomi.

Problem: Bright Sun Causes Overexposure

Auto-exposure can blow out highlights — sky turns white, faces look pale. These tips fix that.

Tip 1 – Tap to Expose Correctly
  1. Open Camera → point at your subject.
  2. Tap on your subject to set the exposure point.
  3. A yellow circle appears — the camera exposes for that area.
  4. Still too bright? Tap, then slide the sun icon down to reduce exposure.

Tip 2 – Enable HDR

HDR merges multiple exposures for balanced highlights and shadows.
1. In Camera → tap the HDR icon (top bar) → set to Auto or On.
2. On Xiaomi 13/14/15 series: Leica Authentic / Leica Vibrant modes have built-in advanced HDR.

Tip 3 – Use EV Compensation in Pro Mode
  1. Switch to Pro Mode → set EV to -0.7 or -1.0.
  2. This deliberately underexposes slightly, preserving sky detail.
  3. Recover shadows in Gallery → Edit → Shadows slider.

Tip 4 – Shoot at Golden Hour
  • Golden hour (30–60 min after sunrise / before sunset) gives warm, soft light with no harsh shadows — the best outdoor condition.
  • Avoid shooting into direct sun — back-lit subjects become silhouettes. Use portrait mode + HDR if needed.

Tip 5 – Use the Right Lens

Pro Tips
  • Tap + drag exposure is the fastest adjustment for any outdoor shot — use this before reaching for Pro Mode.
  • Xiaomi 15 Pro / Ultra's Leica camera system handles high dynamic range significantly better than budget Redmi models. If outdoor photography is a priority, it justifies the upgrade.
  • Use the volume button as a physical shutter for more stable shots — less hand shake than tapping the screen.
