How to Tell If a Xiaomi / Redmi Phone Is the Global, Indian, or Chinese Version
Xiaomi releases the same hardware with different software (ROM) versions for different markets. Knowing which version you have affects updates, Google services, and warranty claims.
Method 1 – Check in Settings
- Go to Settings → About Phone.
- Look at MIUI Version or HyperOS Version — the version string contains a region code:
- V816.0.2.0.UNXEUXM → EUX = European Global
- V816.0.1.0.UNXINXM → INX = India
- V816.0.3.0.UNXCNXM → CNX = China - Alternatively tap Additional info and look for Device Region.
Method 2 – Check Model Number
- Settings → About Phone → All Specs → Model.
- The suffix indicates region:
| Suffix | Region |
|---|---|
| No suffix / EEA | Global / Europe |
| IN | India |
| CN | China |
| RU | Russia |
| JP | Japan |
Example: Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G (24117RAKEG) — KEG indicates India.
Key Differences Between Versions
| Feature | Global ROM | India ROM | China ROM |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Services | ✅ Pre-installed | ✅ Pre-installed | ❌ Not included |
| Bloatware | Moderate | Moderate | Heavy (Chinese apps) |
| OTA Updates | Xiaomi Global server | Xiaomi India server | CN server only |
| App Store | Google Play | Google Play | Xiaomi App Store |
| Warranty | Global service centers | India service centers | China only |
What to Do If You Have the Wrong Version
- China ROM on Global hardware: Flash the Global ROM using the Xiaomi Firmware Updater or MiFlash tool. This voids warranty on some devices.
- India ROM on a non-India device: Generally still works but may miss some carrier optimizations.
- Best practice: Always buy from official regional sellers to get the correct ROM pre-installed.
Pro Tips
- Chinese-version Xiaomi phones cannot run Google services without unofficial modifications.
- If buying from resellers or import sites, always ask for the EEA or Global model number explicitly.
- Use the IMEI Info website to decode model details by IMEI number.
