How to Transfer All Data from Samsung / Android to Xiaomi / Redmi Phone

Switching between Android phones is straightforward. Xiaomi offers its own Mi Mover app, and Google's built-in backup works across all Android devices.

Method 1 – Mi Mover (Best for Android-to-Xiaomi)

Mi Mover is pre-installed on all Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO phones running MIUI or HyperOS.

On your old Android phone:
1. Download Mi Mover from Google Play.
2. Open it and tap I'm the sender.

On your new Xiaomi phone:
1. Open Mi Mover (pre-installed) → tap I'm the receiver.
2. Scan the QR code shown on the old phone.
3. Select data types: Contacts, SMS, Photos, Videos, Music, Apps, Call Logs.
4. Tap Transfer — devices communicate over Wi-Fi Direct (no internet needed).

Transfer speed: approximately 300–500 MB/min over Wi-Fi Direct.

Method 2 – Google Backup & Restore (Most Reliable for Contacts & Apps)
  1. On your old phone: Settings → Google → Backup → tap Back up now.
  2. Ensure Contacts, App data, SMS, Call history, and Device settings are included.
  3. On your new Xiaomi, sign in with the same Google account during first-boot setup.
  4. Choose Restore from Google Backup and select the most recent backup.

Method 3 – Samsung Smart Switch Export (if coming from Samsung)
  1. On Samsung: Settings → Accounts and Backup → Smart Switch → External Storage (SD card).
  2. Move the exported backup to your Xiaomi via SD card or PC.
  3. Import contacts as .vcf and photos via File Manager.

What Transfers & What Doesn't
Data Type Mi Mover Google Backup
Contacts
SMS / MMS
Photos & Videos ✅ (via Google Photos)
Installed Apps ✅ (APKs) ✅ (re-downloads)
App Data / Game Progress ✅ (if app supports)
WhatsApp chats ❌ (needs separate step)

WhatsApp Transfer Between Android Phones
  1. On old phone: WhatsApp → Settings → Chats → Chat Backup → Back up.
  2. Move the WhatsApp folder from old phone to Xiaomi via PC or SD card.
  3. Install WhatsApp on Xiaomi and restore when prompted.

Pro Tips
  • Always back up before transferring — errors can happen mid-transfer.
  • Mi Mover does not transfer paid apps' licenses; you'll need to re-purchase or log in.
  • If apps aren't available on Google Play for your Xiaomi region, use Mi Mover's APK transfer.
