How to Use Xiaomi Phone as Wi-Fi Hotspot and Manage Connected Devices
Xiaomi's hotspot feature lets you share mobile data with laptops, tablets, and other phones.
Enable Personal Hotspot
On HyperOS:
1. Settings → Connection & sharing → Personal hotspot.
2. Toggle Personal hotspot on.
3. Tap Hotspot name to set your SSID.
4. Tap Password to set a secure password (min. 8 characters).
Quick toggle:
Swipe down from the top → tap the Hotspot icon in Quick Settings.
Configure Hotspot Settings

| Password | Use 10+ characters with numbers/symbols |
| Security type | WPA2 / WPA3 (avoid Open) |

Manage Connected Devices
- Go to Settings → Connection & sharing → Personal hotspot.
- Tap Connected devices to see all currently connected devices.
- Tap any device to block or disconnect it.
Set a Data Limit for Hotspot
- In Hotspot settings, tap Data limit.
- Set a usage cap (e.g., 1 GB, 3 GB).
- The hotspot will automatically shut off when the limit is reached.
USB Tethering (Alternative to Wi-Fi Hotspot)
If you only need to share internet with one PC:
1. Connect phone to PC via USB cable.
2. Settings → Connection & sharing → USB tethering → toggle on.
3. The PC will recognize a new network adapter.
Pro Tips
- 5GHz hotspot drains battery faster but offers lower latency — good for gaming laptops.
- 2.4GHz has better range through walls.
- On HyperOS, enable Auto-off when idle to prevent the hotspot from staying on when no device is connected.
- Hotspot activity is counted against your mobile data plan — monitor usage to avoid overage charges.
