How to Use Xiaomi's Built-In Password Manager (Mi Browser / HyperOS)

Xiaomi offers a built-in password manager through Mi Browser and HyperOS system autofill — no third-party app required for basic password management.

Method 1 – HyperOS System Autofill (Recommended)

HyperOS has a system-level autofill service that works across all apps and browsers.

Enable Autofill:
1. Settings → Additional Settings → Accessibility → Downloaded apps → Autofill service.
2. Choose Autofill with Google (uses Google Password Manager) — most reliable option.
3. Or choose Xiaomi Autofill if you prefer to keep passwords on-device.

How it works:
- When you log into an app or website, a prompt appears to Save password.
- Next time, a popup offers to Autofill the saved credentials.
- Works in Chrome, Mi Browser, apps, and any Android sign-in form.

Method 2 – Mi Browser Saved Passwords

Save a password:
1. Log into a website in Mi Browser.
2. A "Save password?" prompt appears — tap Save.

View saved passwords:
1. Open Mi Browser → ⋮ Menu → Settings → Password manager.
2. Authenticate with fingerprint or PIN.
3. View, copy, or delete saved credentials.

Method 3 – Google Password Manager (Most Secure)
  1. Settings → Google → Autofill → Autofill with Google → enable.
  2. All passwords synced across Chrome and Android via your Google account.
  3. Access at passwords.google.com from any device.
  4. Includes Password checkup — alerts you to weak or reused passwords.

Password Manager Comparison
Option Sync Across Devices Security Third-Party Apps
Xiaomi/Mi Browser built-in Xiaomi devices only Moderate Mi Browser only
Google Password Manager All devices (Android/Chrome/iOS) High Most apps + Chrome
Bitwarden / 1Password All devices + all browsers Highest All apps/browsers

Security Recommendations
  • Never save passwords in apps you don't trust.
  • Enable biometric authentication for the password manager (fingerprint/face unlock).
  • Periodically review saved passwords and delete old ones.
  • For high-security accounts (banking, email), use a dedicated password manager app like Bitwarden (free, open source).

Pro Tips
  • On HyperOS 2, passwords saved via Xiaomi Autofill are stored locally and encrypted — they are not uploaded to Mi Cloud by default.
  • If you switch from Mi Browser to Chrome, export your Mi Browser passwords first (Mi Browser → Settings → Password manager → Export).
