How to Recover a Locked or Hacked Mi Account on Xiaomi Phones
Losing access to your Mi Account can lock you out of Find My Device, Mi Cloud, and even your phone itself. Here's how to recover it.
Scenario 1: Forgot Mi Account Password
- Go to account.xiaomi.com on a browser
- Click "Forgot Password"
- Enter your Mi Account email address or phone number
- Choose recovery method:
- SMS code to your registered phone number
- Email link to your registered email
- Follow the prompts to set a new password
Scenario 2: Lost Access to Recovery Email/Phone
- On the password reset page, choose "I no longer have access to these"
- Complete identity verification: Xiaomi may ask for:
- Previous passwords
- Recent activity details
- Purchase records linked to the account
- Photo ID (for manual review — takes 24–72 hours)
- Submit the request and wait for Xiaomi support email
Scenario 3: Account Hacked (Someone Changed Your Password)
Act immediately:
- Try password reset via registered email/phone (before the hacker changes them)
- Go to account.xiaomi.com → Security → Active Sessions → sign out all other devices
- Change password immediately once access is restored
- Enable 2FA (see Article 65) to prevent re-entry
- Contact Xiaomi Support: xiaomi.com/support with proof of ownership
Scenario 4: Mi Account Lock After Factory Reset
If Find My Device was enabled when the phone was factory reset, it will ask for the Mi Account at first boot. Enter your credentials. If you don't remember them, use the password reset steps above — you cannot bypass this without the account credentials (this is by design as an anti-theft feature).
Prevention Tips
- Always keep your recovery email and phone number up to date in Mi Account settings
- Enable 2FA before you lose access
- Write down your Mi Account email and password and store securely
