How to Set a Mobile Data Usage Limit on Xiaomi / Redmi Phones
Running out of your monthly data plan? Set a hard data limit on your Xiaomi phone — HyperOS will warn you when you're close and cut mobile data when you hit the cap.
How to Set a Data Usage Limit
- Go to Settings
- Tap SIM Cards & Mobile Networks (or Traffic Management)
- Select Data Usage
- Tap "Set Data Limit" or "Monthly Data Limit"
- Enter your monthly data allowance (e.g., 10 GB)
- Set the billing cycle reset date (when your plan resets each month)
- Enable "Alert me when I reach" → set a warning at 80% usage
Enable Data Limit Kill Switch
Toggle "Disable mobile data at limit" to ON. When you hit 100% of your set limit, HyperOS automatically turns off mobile data. You'll receive a notification.
Set a Data Warning Separately
You can also set a warning threshold below the hard limit:
- Warning at 8 GB → notification to slow down usage
- Limit at 10 GB → mobile data cut off
Monitor Usage by App
Settings > SIM Cards & Mobile Networks > Data Usage > App Data Usage shows which apps consumed the most data this billing cycle. Common heavy hitters:
- YouTube / Netflix (video streaming)
- Cloud backup (Google Photos, Mi Cloud)
- App updates over mobile data
Pro Tips for Saving Data
- Enable Data Saver (Settings → Network → Data Saver) to restrict background data globally
- Set YouTube to "Wi-Fi only" in app settings
- Disable "Auto-update apps over mobile data" in Play Store settings
