How to Share Internet via Wi-Fi Hotspot on Xiaomi Phones
Need to share your Xiaomi's mobile data with a laptop, tablet, or other device? The built-in Personal Hotspot feature lets you create a Wi-Fi network in seconds.
How to Enable Wi-Fi Hotspot
Method 1 – Settings:
- Go to Settings > Connection & Sharing (or Settings > Hotspot & Tethering)
- Tap "Personal Hotspot"
- Toggle it ON
Method 2 – Control Center:
Swipe down to open Control Center → tap the Hotspot icon. If not visible, add it to Control Center first (see Article 31).
Configure the Hotspot
Before sharing, set up your hotspot properly:
- Hotspot Name (SSID): Choose something recognizable
- Password: Set a strong password (minimum 8 characters)
- Security Type: WPA2 (most secure, compatible with all modern devices)
- Band: 2.4 GHz (wider range) or 5 GHz (faster but shorter range)
Set a Connected Devices Limit
Go to Settings > Personal Hotspot > Allowed Devices or "Maximum connections" to limit how many devices can connect simultaneously. Recommended: max 3–5 to maintain speed.
Hotspot Battery & Data Tips
- Hotspot consumes significant battery — plug in if using for extended periods
- Set a data warning (Settings → Data Usage) so you don't exceed your plan
- Disable hotspot when not in use — it's easy to forget it's on
Alternative Sharing Methods
| Method | Speed | Battery Use | Requires |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi Hotspot | Fast | High | Mobile data plan |
| USB Tethering | Fastest | Low (charges device) | USB cable |
| Bluetooth Tethering | Slow | Low | Bluetooth |
USB tethering is best for laptops — it charges your phone and provides the fastest connection.
