How to Update Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO Phone to HyperOS / Latest Android
Keeping your Xiaomi phone updated brings security patches, new features, and bug fixes. Here's how to update to the latest HyperOS or Android version.
Method 1: OTA Update (Recommended — Easiest)
- Go to Settings > About Phone
- Tap "System Update" (or "HyperOS Update" on newer devices)
- Tap "Check for Updates"
- If an update is available, tap "Download"
- Once downloaded, tap "Update Now" (or schedule for later)
- The phone restarts and installs the update (~5–15 minutes)
Requirements for OTA update:
- Battery above 50% (or plugged in)
- Wi-Fi connection recommended (updates can be 1–3 GB)
- At least 2 GB free storage
Method 2: Local Update (Manual ROM)
If the OTA is not yet available in your region or the automatic update fails:
1. Visit xiaomifirmwareupdater.com or official Xiaomi download page
2. Download the correct ROM for your exact model (e.g., "Redmi Note 14 Pro EEA Global")
3. Transfer the ZIP file to the phone's root storage
4. Settings → About Phone → System Update → tap ⋮ → "Choose update package" → select the ZIP
Tips Before Updating
- Back up your data first — updates rarely cause data loss, but always be prepared
- Check community forums (r/Xiaomi, MIUI forum) for reports of issues with a specific update before installing
- Don't interrupt the update — a failed/interrupted update can cause boot loop
HyperOS vs. MIUI — What Changed?
Xiaomi rebranded MIUI to HyperOS starting in late 2023. HyperOS brings a redesigned UI, new Control Center, better cross-device connectivity (HyperConnect), and improved AI features. Most Xiaomi phones from 2021 onward are eligible for HyperOS.
