How to Use Back Tap Shortcuts on Xiaomi HyperOS
Back Tap is a hidden HyperOS feature that lets you double or triple-tap the back of your Xiaomi phone to perform actions — like taking a screenshot or turning on the flashlight — without touching the screen.
How to Enable Back Tap
- Go to Settings
- Tap Additional Settings
- Scroll to find "Back Tap" (may appear as "Double-sided tap" or "Gestures" on some models)
- Enable "Double Tap" and/or "Triple Tap"
- Assign an action to each
Note: Back Tap availability depends on your model. It's available on most Xiaomi 12, 13, 14, 15 series and newer Redmi Note 12/13/14 series running HyperOS.
Available Actions for Back Tap
| Action | Useful For |
|---|---|
| Screenshot | Quick capture without button combo |
| Flashlight on/off | Hands-free torch toggle |
| Lock screen | Quick screen lock |
| Volume up / down | Adjust volume one-handed |
| Launch app | Open any installed app |
| Launch assistant | Trigger Google Assistant or Xiao AI |
| Notification shade | Pull down notifications |
| Previous / next track | Control music playback |
Recommended Setup
- Double tap → Screenshot (most commonly used shortcut)
- Triple tap → Flashlight (emergency quick access)
Sensitivity Adjustment
If Back Tap triggers accidentally in your pocket or when setting the phone down, go to its settings and reduce sensitivity.
Compatibility Note
Phones with a textured or rubberized back case may reduce Back Tap sensitivity. Test with and without your case — if detection is poor with the case on, consider a thinner case or adjust sensitivity settings.
