How to Use Floating Windows for Multitasking on Xiaomi HyperOS
Floating Windows on Xiaomi HyperOS let you run an app in a small pop-up window over any other app — perfect for messaging while watching a video or checking maps during a call.
How to Open a Floating Window
Method 1 – From Recent Apps:
Tap the Recents button → tap the app icon at the top of an app card → select "Floating Window"
Method 2 – From Sidebar:
Enable the Sidebar (Settings → Additional Settings → Sidebar) → swipe from the sidebar → drag an app icon to the center of the screen → it opens as a floating window.
Method 3 – Via Notification:
When you receive a message notification, tap the message icon in the notification — it opens as a Chat Bubble (a type of floating window).
Controlling the Floating Window
| Action | How To |
|---|---|
| Move | Drag the title bar |
| Resize | Drag the corners |
| Minimize | Tap the minimize (–) button → becomes a floating bubble |
| Maximize | Tap the expand button → opens full screen |
| Close | Tap X, or drag the bubble to the bottom trash area |
Floating Window Apps
Most apps support floating mode, including:
- Calculator
- Chrome / Mi Browser
- Google Maps
- Notes
Games and camera apps typically cannot open as floating windows.
Mini Window Mode
When you minimize a floating window, it becomes a small circle on the edge of the screen. Tap it to restore — it remembers its previous size and position.
Productivity Tip
Open Calculator as a floating window while shopping online — switch between Chrome and Calculator without losing your place in either app.
