How to Use iPhone Portrait Mode?
Portrait mode uses depth data to blur the background. For the best result, keep 2–8 ft (0.6–2.5 m) from your subject and use good, even lighting.
How to use Portrait mode
- Open Camera and swipe to Portrait.
- Follow on-screen prompts (e.g., ‘Move farther away’).
- Tap the subject’s eyes/face to focus.
- Tap the f-number (if shown) to adjust depth (background blur).
- Press the shutter and keep steady for a second.
Edit Portrait effects after shooting
- Open Photos > select the Portrait photo > Edit.
- Adjust Depth to increase/decrease blur.
- Try Portrait Lighting styles (Natural, Studio, Contour, Stage, etc., depending on model).
👍Pros
- Great subject separation; easy background blur; editable later
👎Cons
- Hair/glasses edges may look cut out; needs enough light; not ideal for fast motion
