How to Enable and Use NFC on Samsung Galaxy for Payments and More

NFC (Near Field Communication) on Samsung Galaxy powers tap-to-pay contactless payments, quick device pairing, and smart tag automation. Here's how to enable and use every NFC feature.
How to Enable NFC
- Open Settings.
- Tap Connections.
- Toggle NFC and contactless payments to ON.
- Or: Swipe down twice to open the full Quick Panel and tap the NFC tile.
NFC automatically turns off when Airplane Mode is enabled. Re-enable it manually after turning off Airplane Mode.
Use Case 1: Samsung Pay / Google Pay (Contactless Payments)
Samsung Pay (Samsung Wallet)
- Ensure NFC is enabled.
- Open Samsung Wallet (pre-installed).
- Add your credit/debit card by scanning or entering details.
- At the checkout terminal: swipe up from the bottom of the screen (even when screen is off on supported models), authenticate with fingerprint or PIN, and tap the phone to the payment terminal.
Google Pay
- Install Google Wallet from Play Store.
- Add your payment cards.
- At a contactless terminal: unlock your phone, hold it near the reader, wait for the vibration/beep.
Use Case 2: NFC Tags (Automation)
NFC tags are small programmable chips (~$0.50 each) you can place in your home or car:
- Tag at desk: Tap phone to automatically turn on Do Not Disturb + open work app
- Tag in car: Auto-enable Bluetooth + GPS + open navigation
- Tag at nightstand: Enable silent mode + set alarm

Use Case 3: Pair Bluetooth Accessories Instantly
Many modern headphones, speakers, and earbuds use NFC for one-touch pairing:
- Simply tap your Galaxy against the NFC pairing spot on the accessory

- Clean the back of the phone — debris can interfere.
- Toggle NFC off and on.
- Ensure the NFC target area of your Galaxy is aligned with the reader's antenna.
