How to Force Restart a Frozen Samsung Galaxy Phone
A frozen Samsung Galaxy screen is frustrating, but a force restart almost always solves it without losing your data. Here's how to do it on any Galaxy model.
For Most Samsung Galaxy Phones (S, A, Z series)
Press and hold the Volume Down + Power (Side) button simultaneously for 8–10 seconds until the screen goes black and the Samsung logo appears. Release both buttons and let the phone boot normally.
For Older Galaxy Models with a Home Button
Press and hold Power + Volume Down + Home button for 8 seconds.
If the Screen Is Completely Black (Not Just Frozen)
- Press Volume Down + Side button for 10 seconds.
- If nothing happens, plug in your charger and wait 1 minute, then try again.
- If it still won't turn on, the battery may be fully depleted — charge for at least 30 minutes.
Why Does Samsung Galaxy Freeze?
| Cause | How Often |
|---|---|
| Too many apps running | Very common |
| Low storage space | Common |
| Buggy app or update | Common |
| Overheating | Occasional |
| Hardware issue | Rare |
After the Phone Restarts
- Check if a specific app caused the freeze and clear its cache.
- Free up storage if it's below 1 GB.
- Update One UI if a new version is available.
