How to Stop Samsung Galaxy from Randomly Restarting
If your Samsung Galaxy keeps restarting without warning, it could be a software glitch, a bad app, a failing battery, or a system error. Here's how to diagnose and fix it.
Fix 1: Check for Software Updates
Go to Settings → Software Update → Download and Install. An outdated One UI version is a common cause of random reboots.
Fix 2: Identify the Culprit App
- Boot into Safe Mode (hold Power → long-press Power Off → tap Safe Mode).
- Use your phone normally for a few hours.
- If it doesn't restart in Safe Mode, a third-party app is causing the issue. Uninstall recently installed apps one by one.
Fix 3: Check Battery Health
Go to Settings → Battery and Device Care → Battery → Battery Status. A degraded battery (below 80% health) can cause unexpected shutdowns and restarts. Consider battery replacement if needed.
Fix 4: Clear System Cache
Boot into Recovery Mode (Power off → hold Volume Up + Power), select Wipe Cache Partition, and reboot.
Fix 5: Reset App Preferences
Go to Settings → General Management → Reset → Reset App Preferences. This resets all disabled apps, notifications, and default app associations without deleting data.
Fix 6: Check for Water or Physical Damage
Even minor water ingress can cause erratic restarts. If your phone was recently exposed to moisture, let it dry completely.
Fix 7: Factory Reset
If nothing else works, back up your data and go to Settings → General Management → Reset → Factory Data Reset.
Dr.Fone Tip: Before a factory reset, use Dr.Fone – Phone Backup to create a complete backup of your Samsung Galaxy in minutes.
