How to Use Night Mode on Samsung Galaxy for Perfect Low-Light Photos

Use Samsung Galaxy Night Mode for Galaxy night photo tips. Master night mode camera Samsung and low light photography Galaxy with Samsung Galaxy nightography.

Samsung Galaxy's Night Mode (also called Nightography on newer models) uses multi-frame AI processing to produce bright, detailed photos in near-darkness. Here's how to use it effectively.

How Night Mode Works

Night Mode takes multiple exposures over 3–10+ seconds, stacks them together, and uses AI to:

  • Reduce noise and grain
  • Restore lost detail in shadows
  • Balance colors under artificial lighting
  • Maintain natural, non-overexposed highlights

The result is far brighter and cleaner than a single-exposure low-light photo.

How to Activate Night Mode
  1. Open the Camera app.
  2. Swipe through the shooting modes at the bottom to find Night (or it may be labeled in the "More" section).
  3. Tap Night mode.
  4. The viewfinder shows the current capture duration (3s, 5s, 10s, etc.) — this adjusts automatically based on light levels.
  5. Tap the shutter button to capture.

Note: Keep your phone absolutely still during the entire capture — any camera shake creates blur. Use a surface, wall, or tripod for best results.

Night Mode Tips
Stay Still

The biggest challenge in Night Mode is camera shake. Brace your elbows against your body, or prop the phone on a stable surface.

Use a Tripod

For durations longer than 3 seconds, a mini tripod (even a $10 mini tripod) dramatically improves sharpness.

Adjust the Duration
  • Tap the timer icon in Night Mode to manually select duration (shorter = faster but less bright; longer = brighter but more blur risk)
  • Galaxy S25 and Ultra support adaptive duration — the phone automatically chooses the optimal time
Astrophotography Mode

On Galaxy S21 and newer:

  • Point your camera at a clear night sky away from city lights
  • After several seconds in Night Mode, a pop-up may appear: "Bright night: Astrophoto mode"
  • This extended Night Mode captures star trails and the Milky Way
Night Mode on Ultra-Wide and Telephoto

Night Mode is available on all lenses (main, ultra-wide, telephoto) on Galaxy S23 and newer. The telephoto lens benefits most from Night Mode since it has a smaller aperture.

Night Mode vs Pro Mode (Night Photography)
Method Best For
Night Mode (auto) Quick, easy, great results for most scenes
Pro Mode (manual) Full creative control; ISO, shutter, white balance

For most users, Night Mode produces better results without any manual adjustment.
