Will Updating to iOS 27 Delete Your Data? Prepare First
Before installing an iOS update, make a current backup using iCloud or a computer. An update and an erase are separate actions, but a backup gives you a recovery point if later troubleshooting requires a restore. Keep the question practical: protect the data first, then install the update.
Make a usable backup
- Choose iCloud Backup or a computer backup and let it finish before starting the update.
- Check the backup date and time in the service or computer you used.
- Keep the iPhone connected to power and use a reliable Wi-Fi connection for the wireless update.
Do not confuse update and erase actions
Software Update installs newer iOS software. Erase All Content and Settings is a separate action that removes information and settings. A computer recovery screen can offer both Update and Restore, so read the option carefully and choose Update when the goal is to install software without intentionally erasing the device.
If the update cannot complete
Do not jump directly to an erase. Check available storage, the network, and the downloaded update first. Apple documents removing a downloaded update from iPhone Storage and downloading it again, or using a computer as another update path. Keep the backup until the update is complete and you have checked important data.
