How to Back Up WhatsApp from iPhone 18 to a Computer
There are two different computer-backup goals. Finder on a Mac and Apple Devices or iTunes on Windows create a full-device iPhone backup. If you specifically need a WhatsApp backup workflow on a computer, use a WhatsApp-specific method instead of treating the full-device backup as a standalone chat archive.
Option 1: Back up the iPhone on a Mac
- Connect the iPhone 18 to the Mac with a cable and open Finder.
- Select the iPhone in the Finder sidebar, then open the General tab.
- Select Back up all of the data on your iPhone to this Mac.
- If you need Health and Activity data included, select Encrypt local backup, create a password, and store it safely.
- Click Back Up Now and wait for the backup to finish.
Option 2: Back up the iPhone on Windows
- Open Apple Devices on the PC. If Apple Devices is unavailable, use iTunes for Windows.
- Connect the iPhone, unlock it, and follow any prompt to trust the computer.
- Select the iPhone, then open General in Apple Devices or Summary in iTunes.
- Select Encrypt local backup if you need encrypted backup data, create a password, and keep that password safe.
- Select Back Up Now. When the process finishes, confirm the latest backup date and time.
These Mac and Windows procedures create a full-device backup. They are useful as a recovery copy of iPhone information, but they are not a separate WhatsApp-only archive or export.
Option 3: Use a WhatsApp-specific computer backup
If you want a WhatsApp-specific computer backup instead of a full-device backup, Dr.Fone - WhatsApp Transfer provides a dedicated WhatsApp backup workflow. Keep the iPhone and computer available until the backup completes, and verify the result before erasing or replacing the device.
Before you rely on any backup
- Keep the iPhone connected until the computer reports completion.
- Do not lose an encrypted local-backup password; Apple states that it cannot be recovered.
- Choose the method that matches the goal: a full-device recovery copy or a WhatsApp-specific backup.
