How to Cancel an iOS 27 Update in Progress

You can remove an iOS update that has downloaded but is not installing. Do not force-restart or turn off an iPhone while its installation progress is underway: keep it connected to power and let the update complete unless Apple Support gives you different instructions.

Remove a downloaded update

  1. Open Settings, then go to General and iPhone Storage.
  2. Find the downloaded iOS update in the app list.
  3. Open it and choose Delete Update.
  4. Return to Settings, General, Software Update when you are ready to download again.

Tell download from installation apart

During a download, the iPhone can still be used and the update remains a removable file. During installation, the device displays its update progress and should remain on power. If the progress appears slow, storage and update size can affect the time it takes; Apple recommends checking progress rather than interrupting it.

If an update later becomes stuck and Apple's recovery steps do not resolve the software problem, Dr.Fone - System Repair provides a guided desktop workflow for iOS system issues before you consider a full erase.
