What to Do When Apps Stay Stuck on Installing After an iPhone Update

When an app remains on Installing after an update, start with the App Store connection and the phone's available storage. The timing alone does not prove that the system update caused the stall. Work through the checks below before deleting app data or resetting the phone.

Check the download queue

  1. Open the App Store and make sure the correct Apple Account is signed in.
  2. Confirm that the iPhone has a working internet connection, then pause and resume the affected download from the Home Screen if that control appears.
  3. Check Settings > General > iPhone Storage and free space if the device is close to full.

Refresh the connection

Restart the iPhone, reconnect to a reliable Wi-Fi network, and try the download again. If several apps are stalled, check whether other App Store downloads can start before treating one app as the issue. Also check that the app is still available for your region and current iOS version in its App Store listing.

When to escalate

Do not delete an app that contains local-only information until you know its data is backed up or synced. If the problem affects only one app after these checks, contact that app's developer. If App Store downloads broadly remain unavailable, contact Apple Support with the app names and the exact status shown.
