How to Fix the iOS 26.7 vs iOS 27 Update Queue Conflict

When iOS 26.7 and iOS 27 appear together and the request stays on Update Requested, install iOS 26.7 first instead of repeatedly selecting iOS 27. Let 26.7 finish, verify the installed version, and then return to Settings > General > Software Update to check for iOS 27 again. This sequential approach follows Apple’s guidance to install an earlier available version before moving to the newer release.

💡Protip:

Treat iOS 26.7 and iOS 27 as sequential updates. Complete iOS 26.7 before requesting iOS 27 again.

Start with iOS 26.7, then request iOS 27

Treat the two entries as a sequence, not as updates that can be requested simultaneously. If iOS 26.7 is listed as available or is already queued, open that update and allow it to download and install completely.

Do not keep switching between the iOS 26.7 and iOS 27 entries while the first request is pending. Some users have reported that the Software Update screen remains unchanged when they switch between entries.

After iOS 26.7 finishes, wait for the iPhone to restart and become responsive before checking for iOS 27. After 26.7 finishes and the version is verified, check Software Update again. If iOS 27 is not listed, wait and retry later instead of repeatedly tapping both entries.

Why the update request can appear stuck

Some iPhone users have seen iOS 26.7 and iOS 27 displayed together, or have tapped iOS 27 only to see a screen labeled iOS 26.7. In some cases, the update screen may show a different queued update or remain on Update Requested.

🤔Note:

Update Requested describes a request that has not visibly progressed to installation. The display or redirect behavior should be treated as an observed update-labeling or queue issue, not as a confirmed Apple-documented bug.

A pending or downloaded earlier update can leave the Software Update screen in a confusing or unchanged state. Completing the earlier update provides the recommended next step before checking for iOS 27 again.

Complete the queued update cleanly
  1. Check the connection and power. Connect the iPhone to dependable Wi-Fi, make sure it has enough free storage, and connect it to power. Keeping the iPhone charging during installation helps prevent the process from stopping because of low battery.
  2. Restart the iPhone if the request has not changed. After it turns back on, open Settings > General > Software Update again.
  3. Choose iOS 26.7 when it is the available or queued update. Start that installation rather than selecting iOS 27 again.
  4. Wait for the installation to finish. Keep the iPhone connected to Wi-Fi and power, and do not request another update while 26.7 is downloading or installing.
  5. Verify the installed version. Open Settings > General > About and check the software version. You can also return to Settings > General > Software Update to see whether the earlier update is still offered.
  6. Check for iOS 27 only after 26.7 is complete. Return to Software Update and request iOS 27 when it appears. If it does not show immediately, allow the iPhone time and check again later instead of repeatedly tapping both entries.

If iOS 27 still does not appear after iOS 26.7 is confirmed, the device may need another Software Update refresh. A later check over a stable Wi-Fi connection is safer than repeatedly creating new update requests.

If Update Requested still does not move

First confirm that the iPhone is still connected to Wi-Fi, has sufficient storage, is charging or adequately powered, and actually completed iOS 26.7. These checks help distinguish a stale display from an incomplete installation.

If a downloaded update file is blocking progress, check Settings > General > iPhone Storage. When the update appears there as a separate storage item, tap it and choose Delete Update. This removes the downloaded package so the iPhone can check for it again. Restart the iPhone afterward, then return to Settings > General > Software Update.

Only delete an update when it is visibly listed in iPhone Storage. This option does not remove a request that has not produced a downloadable update item. If the screen remains on Update Requested after the downloaded file is removed and the iPhone is restarted, stop repeating the same request and move to an alternative update method.

Escalate to a computer-based update or system repair

If the wireless update remains stalled or iOS 26.7 cannot complete, connect the iPhone to a compatible computer. On a Mac, use Finder; on Windows, use the Apple Devices app. Select the iPhone and choose the normal Update option when available. This provides an alternative way to install iOS without continuing to use the stuck on-device request.

Back up important data before advanced recovery or repair steps when possible. A standard update is intended to preserve data and settings, but Restore is different: it erases the iPhone. Avoid choosing Restore unless you understand the data-loss consequences and have exhausted the less-destructive update options.

If the iPhone still cannot complete the sequential update after the on-device and computer-based methods, Dr.Fone - System Repair may be considered as an optional guided desktop workflow for a persistent software-level update problem. Back up first, and review the repair mode carefully because some advanced repair actions can have different data-loss implications.
