How to Fix WhatsApp Crashing on Specific Chats After Transferring to iPhone 18
If WhatsApp works normally until you open one or two particular chats, treat that as a chat-specific symptom, not proof that a contact or chat is corrupted. The useful first check is whether other chats, Settings, and the chat list remain usable; that separates this case from a full app crash loop.
Start with the low-risk checks: restart the iPhone, confirm that both iOS and WhatsApp are up to date, check your internet connection, and review available storage at Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Do not assume that the iPhone model or the transfer itself caused the crash.
Back up before taking a destructive step
If the app remains usable outside the affected chat, check for an existing iCloud chat backup in WhatsApp at Settings > Chats > Chat Backup. Record the date and size of the backup. Messages sent or received after that backup cannot be restored from it.
Only after confirming a usable backup should you consider uninstalling and reinstalling WhatsApp. During setup, verify the same phone number and Apple ID, then choose Restore Chat History when it appears. The iPhone and iCloud account must have enough free space for the restore.
Keep the symptom scoped
After each change, test a chat that normally opens and then test one affected chat. If every screen now crashes, switch to general app-crash troubleshooting instead of repeatedly restoring for one conversation. If only the same chat continues to trigger the crash after the supported checks, avoid claiming a specific cause and contact WhatsApp support with the app version, iOS version, and the exact action that triggers the crash.
Note:
Do not delete the app before confirming a backup. Reinstalling can restore only the history contained in the backup; it does not merge a newer history with an older backup.
If you want a WhatsApp-specific computer backup before reinstalling, Dr.Fone - WhatsApp Transfer provides a dedicated WhatsApp backup workflow.
