How to Fix WhatsApp Not Opening After the iOS 27 Update

If WhatsApp will not open after an iOS update, do not assume the update caused the problem. Start with the least disruptive checks: restart the iPhone, make sure you have a working internet connection, and install any available iOS and WhatsApp updates. If the app still closes or stays on a blank screen, check available storage before considering a reinstall.

WhatsApp lists low storage, outdated software, device issues, network problems, and app bugs among possible reasons an app can crash. The same symptom can have more than one cause, so the useful goal is to rule out the simple conditions first.

Work through the safe checks

  1. Restart the iPhone, then try opening WhatsApp again.
  2. Connect to a reliable Wi-Fi or cellular connection and check whether the App Store offers a WhatsApp update.
  3. Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Review the recommendations and remove or offload content only after checking what it contains.
  4. Install an available iOS update, then restart the phone once more.

Before reinstalling WhatsApp

Reinstalling is a later step, not the first one. If WhatsApp opens far enough to reach its settings, first check Chats > Chat Backup and confirm that a recent backup is shown. A reinstall can only restore chat history that is already in an existing backup; messages received after that backup are not recoverable from it.

If WhatsApp never opens and you cannot confirm a backup, do not delete the app just to test it. Contact WhatsApp support or Apple Support instead. This protects against turning an app-launch problem into a chat-history loss problem.

If you want a WhatsApp-specific computer backup before reinstalling or resetting, Dr.Fone - WhatsApp Transfer provides a dedicated backup workflow.

Note:

The iOS version in this scenario identifies when the issue was noticed; it does not by itself establish the cause of the crash.
