How to Delete Duplicate Photos on iPhone?

Use the Photos app’s Duplicates feature (when available) to merge duplicates safely. For older iOS versions, sort by date and remove near-duplicates manually.

Steps: Merge duplicates in Photos
  1. Open Photos > Albums.
  2. Scroll to Utilities and look for Duplicates.
  3. Tap Merge next to a pair, or Select > Merge to batch-merge.
  4. Photos keeps the highest-quality file and relevant metadata.
Safety checklist before deleting
  • Back up your iPhone (iCloud or computer) before large cleanups.
  • Review ‘Recently Deleted’ before space checks.
  • Be careful with ‘similar’ photos (different expressions) — duplicates aren’t always identical.
🤔 Protip:

For a safer cleanup workflow, you can back up photos to a computer first. Wondershare Dr.Fone can create a copy of your media so you can remove duplicates with confidence.
