How to Manage iCloud Storage?
When iCloud storage is full, backups stop, photos may stop syncing, and apps can’t store data in iCloud. The fastest fix is to identify the biggest storage users and reduce them.
Step 1: Check what’s using iCloud space
- Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
- Tap Storage (or Manage Account Storage).
- Review the list of apps/services using storage.
Step 2: Use these high-impact cleanup actions
- A) Remove old iPhone/iPad backups
In iCloud Storage, tap Backups > select an old device > Delete Backup. - B) Reduce Photos footprint
If you use iCloud Photos, large videos are common space hogs. Consider exporting and archiving to a computer, then deleting from Photos (and Recently Deleted). - C) Clean up iCloud Drive
Open the Files app > iCloud Drive > delete large items you don’t need. - D) Manage app data
In iCloud storage view, tap an app > delete documents/data stored in iCloud (if safe).
iCloud+ plan comparison (typical options)
| Plan | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Free (5GB) | Basic settings/small backups | Fills quickly with photos/backups |
| 50GB | 1 iPhone backup + some photos | Still tight for heavy photo/video users |
| 200GB | Families or multi-device | Higher cost, but fewer interruptions |
| 2TB+ | Power users / large libraries | Overkill for light users |
Note: Plans and pricing vary by region. Always confirm inside Settings > iCloud > Manage Storage > Change Storage Plan.
