How to Fix the iPhone 18 Region Bug That Makes Apps Crash
If your iPhone 18 Pro Region field shows a number such as 15, open Settings > General > Language & Region and change it back to your correct country or region. A number is not a normal country selection and may indicate an abnormal settings state. After changing it, quit and reopen Safari, Contacts, WhatsApp, and any other affected apps; this is a low-risk first step when several apps begin crashing together.
What the abnormal iPhone region value means
The iPhone’s Region setting controls formats and related regional preferences, including dates, numbers, calendars, measurements, and temperature units. It should display a country or region, not an unexplained number.
Some iPhone 18 Pro users have encountered a numeric value alongside crashes in built-in and third-party apps. Apple has not confirmed that this is a universal iPhone 18 Pro defect, and changing the region is not a guaranteed fix. However, restoring a valid region is a sensible first troubleshooting step when Safari, Contacts, WhatsApp, and multiple other apps are affected at the same time.
🤔Note:
Changing the region is a low-risk troubleshooting step, but it is not a guaranteed solution for every iPhone 18 Pro app crash.
Check and reset the iPhone 18 Pro device region
- Open Settings.
- Tap General.
- Select Language & Region.
- Tap Region.
- Choose the country or region where you currently use the iPhone.
- Confirm any format changes shown on screen.
If the field displays 15 or another number instead of a country or region, select the correct location from the available list. Then leave Settings and allow the iPhone a moment to apply the new regional formats.
Changing this setting affects the iPhone’s device region. It does not change your Apple Account country, App Store country, subscriptions, payment details, GPS location, Location Services, or time zone. Those are separate settings or services, so do not change them unless you have a different reason to do so.
Relaunch apps after correcting the region
Apps that were already open may still hold the previous settings state. Fully quit and reopen the affected apps:
- Open the App Switcher.
- Remove Safari, Contacts, WhatsApp, and other crashing apps from the App Switcher.
- Return to the Home Screen and open each app again.
- Test the actions that previously caused the crashes.
If apps still close unexpectedly, restart the iPhone and test them again. Also check whether the Region field remains set to the correct country after the restart. If the value changes back to a number, note when it happens and which apps are affected.
If multiple apps still crash
When both built-in and third-party apps continue crashing, treat the problem as broader than a single app. Before deeper troubleshooting:
- Back up the iPhone using your preferred Apple backup method.
- Open Settings > General > Software Update.
- Install any iOS update available for the device.
- Restart the iPhone after the update.
- Check Settings > General > Language & Region again.
- Relaunch the affected apps and test them individually.
💡Protip:
Back up your iPhone before installing updates or attempting deeper system troubleshooting, especially when multiple built-in and third-party apps are affected.
An update may improve system behavior, but do not assume that a particular iOS version fixes this specific region symptom unless Apple documents it. If only one app remains affected after the region is corrected, use that app’s normal update or support options rather than changing unrelated iPhone settings.
If the Region field cannot be changed, returns to a numeric value, or Safari, Contacts, WhatsApp, and other apps continue crashing after a restart and update, contact Apple Support. Tell them that the device region displayed an abnormal number and that multiple apps were affected. This information can help distinguish a settings problem from a wider iOS issue.
If manual troubleshooting fails and resetting an already-configured iPhone is not practical, Dr.Fone - System Repair may be considered as an optional guided desktop repair workflow. Back up the iPhone first, verify the current supported-device information, and follow the workflow’s data-loss warnings; Standard Repair is designed to preserve personal data, while Advanced Repair may erase data. Apple Support remains the appropriate escalation path if the problem persists or the iPhone shows other system or hardware symptoms.
